JOB DESCRIPTION
Assignment Desk Editor (Regular Full-Time):
Fox 5 WTTG News, Washington DC the #1 News Station and most hours of local news is looking for an experienced Assignment Desk Editor. Responsible for gathering story information from various news sources and determine the newsworthiness. Make decisions on what stories to cover and assign/dispatch crews. Keep news staff apprised of breaking news and changes in assignments. Make beat check calls to law enforcement and other governmental agencies. May manage website content. Tweet and post breaking news immediately and effectively. Monitor social media and news websites. Communicate with affiliates to ensure continuity in coverage. Must be well organized and able to multi-task. Must demonstrate outstanding news judgment and good news writing skills. Must be able to work and communicate effectively with producers, technical staff and managers.
Must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Weekend, holidays and varied hours required. 4 yr college degree preferred. A minimum of two years’ experience in TV news, including assignment desk experience preferred Weekends, holidays and varied hours req.
