USA TODAY is seeking to experienced, distinguished editors to fill key roles on our national news desk. We’re looking for enterprise editors to supervise reporters based in locations throughout the country or who cover national beats. These editors need to have a track record of guiding stories with impact and a proven ability to help reporters spot and develop must-read stories. The editors in these roles should be skilled leaders who can work with reporters remotely and build a team atmosphere from that structure.
You’ll need to possess strong editing skills and able to help reporters produce storytelling at a high level, as well as smart explanatory stories and quick-turn watchdog work. At times your reporters will leap into big breaking news in their regions, and you’ll need to be adept at leading that kind of coverage and working closely with our Breaking News team and at our local properties in more than 100 newsrooms across the country.
You will need to be an inspiring leader and a creative problem solver who values accuracy and knows that the best stories connect with people at a human level and show why the subject matters to them and the world around them. Candidates should also have an understanding of today’s platforms and metrics. The enterprise editors will report to our national editors for the east and west.
