Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) is an innovative, digitally focused media and marketing solutions company committed to strengthening communities across our network. With an unmatched local-to-national reach, Gannett touches the lives of more than 110 million people monthly with our Pulitzer-Prize winning content, consumer experiences and benefits, and advertiser products and services. Gannett brands include USA TODAY NETWORK with the iconic USA TODAY and more than 100 local media brands, digital marketing services companies ReachLocal and SweetIQ, and U.K. media company Newsquest.
The USA TODAY NETWORK is seeking a data-minded digital expert who can connect newsrooms throughout the east to key audiences by combining digital analytics with strategy and best practices.
Are you a digital leader in your news operation ready to join a team shaping the focus of community newsrooms across the country? Or are you a data-savvy analyst with an aptitude for content? Whether you come from a news background with a head for numbers or an analytical background with a nose for news, this is an opportunity to make a difference in the emerging new field of journalism's intersection with big data.
This is about more than reports and spreadsheets. The strategist will exercise judgment in translating data points into actionable insights. They’ll work alongside editors and journalists across the country to develop tactics and teach reporters to help our news teams remain focused on the powerful work our audiences seek.
The right candidate deeply understands data tools and knows how to apply their analytical mindset to content. This is a hands-on data job, and digging skills are required. But it's just as important that they understand how their research relates to modern digital journalism, newsroom deployment and audience development.
The position is based in Nashville's DOT (Digital Optimization Team), a group of digital producers working with dozens of smaller and mid-size news teams. This provides a unique opportunity to partner with and teach digital producers, as well as work remotely with editors on helping them understand trends and ways to help journalists in the field.
Candidates need an understanding of tools such as Adobe Analytics and/or Google Analytics, strong communication and presentation ability and advanced skill in Microsoft Excel, including creating pivot tables from complex datasets. Prior experience in a digital, print or television news operation is preferred, as is previous experience validating, collecting and interpreting data. Successful applicants will have a bachelor's degree in data or business analytics, marketing, statistics, journalism or related field.
Help us ensure the future of journalism is strong and that our newsrooms continue to evolve to meet the needs of a growing digital audience.
