The Autodesk Corporate Finance team is comprised of approximately 80 finance professionals primarily located in San Francisco, San Rafael, Manchester NH, Singapore and Dublin.
Position Overview
The Vice President Corporate Controller will be responsible for all aspects of the global accounting functions at Autodesk partnering with executive leadership to provide strategic and tactical finance-based decision support. This highly visible position will report directly to the CFO and work closely with the Audit Committee.
The Corporate Controller manages a team with direct responsibility for the quarterly and annual close processes, oversight of external financial reporting, including SEC and local statutory filings; revenue operations, acquisition accounting and finance integration of acquired entities, ensuring the integrity of the company's financial data and reporting; and supporting the external audit process with the Company’s independent auditors.
The individual will have strong operational capability with a focus on how to effectively scale the function as the company grows. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience across a wide range of financial areas within a large publicly traded multinational high-tech company.
Responsibilities
• Develop a strategic vision for the global accounting function
• Lead and inspire a global team, develop future financial talent through training and mentoring of individuals, as well as staffing and recruiting of necessary skill sets
• Create value for the entire Company by contributing as a strategic and technical partner to the CFO and executive leadership team
• Champion a strong control environment. Ensure the effectiveness and adequacy of financial policies, procedures and controls
• Stay ahead of future developments, oversee research of technical accounting issues and develop policies and procedures for new accounting standards
• Help the organization navigate the complex revenue accounting rules while accomplishing our business objectives through deal support and the implementation of new business models
• Define the vision and lead process redesign efforts, where possible digitizing operations through robotic processing automation
• Support the implementation of a new ERP system (SAP S/4 HANA and Hybris Billing) and continuously streamline and enhance back office systems and adopt a ‘fit-to-standard’ approach for accounting processes
• Present to the Audit Committee on accounting issues impacting the financial statements, controls, and topics of special interest
• Serve as principal interface with the independent public accountants (EY) for the planning, coordination and conduct of their annual audit and other services across the company and their reporting to the Audit Committee
• Provide advice on the accounting implications of potential deal structures for acquisitions and strategic investments. Manage accounting integration of acquired entities
• Work closely with FP&A on accounting impacts to the quarterly and annual forecasts
• Work closely with investor relations and FP&A to assist with the development of earnings release materials
• Monitor our customers' financial health and provide meaningful analysis to minimize credit risk while helping to maximize sales, managing a global credit and collections team
• Manage compliance with all local legal and statutory requirements for Autodesk overseas entities, including statutory filings and financial statement audits
• Oversee the preparation of quarterly reports on SEC Form 10-Q and annual report on SEC Form 10-K
• Participate on Autodesk’s subsidiary governance committee and on the boards of directors of Autodesk subsidiaries. Review and approve subsidiary statutory filings, intercompany transactions and other corporate governance matters
Minimum Qualifications
• Excellent management and leadership skills adding value to the growth of the business while ensuring the integrity of the financial reporting
• Recent experience as a senior level accounting professional at a public company with annual revenues of over $1 billion within the technology industry. A minimum of 15+ years of accounting and finance experience
• High degree of accounting proficiency, judgement, integrity and leadership skills
• Demonstrate a sound understanding of the business overall, and the impacts accounting policies and standards can have on business results
• Ability to interact with and influence at the executive and board level. Exceptionally strong communication skills
• A motivating executive capable of instilling excitement and inspiring others
• A self-motivated collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills who can credibly communicate with and relate to people at all levels in the organization
• Strong ability to hold self and others accountable and display leadership courage
• A leader that is known for building organizational capability through diverse and deep talent pipelines
• Experience managing diverse international teams and local statutory and regulatory issues and compliance
• Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff and creating high performing teams
• Successful track record in driving both strategic and operational activities
• Direct experience with enterprise software applications (e.g., Oracle or SAP) and participation in strategic decisions around system improvements, including the development and execution of new systems and processes
• Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging trends and relevant legislation that impacts accounting and financial reporting
• CPA required; Big 4 experience desired
• Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements
