Coordinating Editor - Web, Social Media and Community Engagement
Apress Media, a Springer Nature company, is a publisher dedicated to meeting the information needs of developers, IT professionals and tech communities worldwide. Our diverse and dynamic team based out of our SoHo NYC campus is actively recruiting for a Coordinating Editor - Web, Social Media and Community Engagement to join our global team. This high performing individual will focus on the following areas:
1. Apress.com website: Generate, solicit and manage content for the Apress website
2. Social Media: Manage the editorial content on Apress’ social media accounts to ensure that volume, tone and content of the messaging are appealing to our target audience
3. Tech community engagement:Work with tech user groups and Meetup groups to build partnerships that are of strategic importance to Apress
4. Author collaboration: Work with our authors to provide them with the tools and information they need to communicate about their book to the relevant tech communities
Specific tasks associated with these responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Apress.com website
◦ Solicit and manage the content for the blog on apress.com. Identify hot topics that will appeal to the tech community and find authors to write posts about these topics
◦ Ensure that the editorial information on apress.com (highlights, discipline pages, “where to meet us” etc.) are updated on a regular basis
◦ Coordinate production of short (2-3 minutes) promotional author videos that can be posted on apress.com
2. Social Media
◦ Manage the editorial content that is shared via Apress’ social media accounts
◦ Ensure an optimal mix of information about Apress’ books and authors and general tech information shared via social media
◦ Generate and deploy new and creative ways to interact with our target audience while growing Apress’ follower base
3. Tech community engagement
◦ Identify key tech bloggers and work with them to get book reviews, author interviews, raffle books, etc.
◦ Develop and build a tech media list to promote new releases and news about Apress
◦ Work with user groups to increase engagement
◦ Assist editors in identifying tech Meetup groups in the NY area where our team can partner; plan and organize Meetup group meetings hosted at our global campuses
4. Author collaboration
◦ Create press releases for high-potential books by working with the author and Springer Nature’s corporate communications department
◦ Work with authors of recently published books to ensure their books get Amazon reviews
◦ For authors with speaking engagements and/or book events: coordinate the creation of flyers, coupon codes, and other author promotional materials with the relevant departments in the company
Other duties as required by your manager.
The kind of profile we are looking for:
• A Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of work experience are required -- work experience in publishing/media or tech is a plus. Our ideal candidate will have experience in an editorial department, but we will also consider candidates with marketing experience.
• Excellent communication skills are paramount, both verbally and in writing. You are a team-player and can liaise easily with colleagues, authors and publishing partners alike, at all levels of the organization. You are able to work on various projects simultaneously.
• You currently use social media personally and have used social media professionally. You are a creative innovator with a passion for finding new ways to communicate with an audience as a brand.
• You have a natural interest in the tech industry. While you do not need to know how to code for this role, we are a tech publisher and thus look for talent who follows the main developments in the field (e.g. Do you know a bit about how Blockchain technology works? Do you read the tech pages of the New York Times or another newspaper regularly?)
