Role Summary
Responsible for software builds and releases. Responsible for the design and development of builds, scripts, installation procedures, and systems including source code control and issue tracking. Works closely with a quality assurance team to ensure final version is up to organizational standards. This person will interface and communicate with Test Managers, Dev Managers, IT Ops and off-course the PMO daily. You will own the Release Management lifecycle, which includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases across the enterprise for multiple applications across various portfolios. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, Projects and Programs. This person will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for code through development, test, and production environments. The Release Manager Job function works collaboratively with all participants in software development projects and is supportive of developers and testers as they set up their build dev/test environments. A qualified candidate will work with the development, quality assurance, and system administration teams to ensure reliable release procedures throughout the Software Development Lifecycle. Experience with building software is essential.
Key Responsibilities
• Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
• Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
• Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and that they meet or exceed expectations
• Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
• Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans
• Weekly Release Reporting
• Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
• Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
• Develops scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
• Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
• Researches new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs
• Build software components from various code sources.
• Keep current with new software improvement tools and applications
• Direct the deployment of software components to our test and production servers.
• Maintain source code repositories and promote best practices.
• Contribute to the technical operations and projects with little direction
• Must quickly adapt to an ever-changing environment, flexibility is key
• Develop and maintain automated software build processes.
• Works with development teams to improve standards for software configuration.
• Participate in business and architectural meetings for future projects.
• Document process and procedures related to the deployment of software.
Qualifications/Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
• Proficient in the use of source control management and defect tracking systems.
• Familiar with continuous deployment concepts.
• Familiar with Jenkins and simple concepts of server networks.
• Familiarity with and able to make recommendation on build tools
• Proficiency in deploying software to test and production environments with minimal risk and downtime.
• Strong understanding of programming concepts and best practices.
