HMH is looking for a High School Science Assessment Specialist.
This is a full-time project position for the length of the project that will be responsible for development of assessment content in secondary Science, execution of department processes and procedures, and monitoring progress against work plans under the supervision of Senior and/or Lead Assessment Specialist.
Primary Responsibilities
Development Expertise and Assessment Quality
• Creating item development plans
• Evaluating item bank inventories
• Aligning item sets to standards, DOK, and other additional attributes
• Reviewing items, test forms, and ancillaries against checklists, specifications, and style guides
• Performing test-taker and key verification reads
• Reviewing test forms, marking test forms for edits by the compositors, reconciling forms between print and authoring site
Project Coordination
• Obtain project guiding documentation, review, and prepare for project tasks
• Assisting in item and form tracking to ensure adherence with the schedule
• Performing required tasks in accordance with schedule and deadlines
• Escalating programs risks and determining appropriate mitigation strategies
• Aggregating and verifying final project documentation
Other
• Attending and contributing to project meetings
• Supporting project leads and other staff in maintaining project scope
• Recommending process or procedural improvements
• Generating ideas for new products or product enhancements
• Training and communicating with consultants and external vendors
Education and Experience
• BS or BA in one of more of the following science fields: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Astronomy
• Advanced degree in one of the science fields or in educational measurement preferred
• 3+ years teaching experience and/or formal assessment/test development experience
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong familiarity with industry standards for assessment quality, including technical requirements
• Understanding of assessment principles and processes in new product development
• Ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with colleagues
• Superior attention to detail and command of language
• Experience in instructional design and training
• Ability to develop creative solutions to solve resource and schedule challenges
• Content expertise in one of the following fields of science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science or Astronomy
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via conference calls, and online meetings.
