Overview
Position with a top-five publisher to create children’s Books and Bibles and Gift books for some of the most influential authors in Christian publishing. The Specialty Division at HarperCollins Christian Publishing is seeking an Art Director for gift books, children’s books, devotionals, lifestyle books and journals.
Seeking candidate with strong creative vision, ideation, execution, organization, and communication skills. The position designs as well as provides conceptual and creative direction for covers and marketing pieces, commissions external illustrators, designers, and vendors, maintains art budgets, and manages a robust
title list.
The Specialty Division at Thomas Nelson is the publishing division for Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling, Lysa Terkeurst’s Embraced, Annie F. Downs’ 100 Days to Brave, Emily Ley’s A Simplified Life, Chris Tomlin and Pat Barrett’s Good Good Father, God Bless You and Goodnight, as well as numerous other bestselling authors and titles.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities:
• Concept, develop, and create award-winning book covers.
• Commission and contract illustrators, designers, and vendors to develop cover designs.
• Work with team on product development and design for Children’s Bibles
• Manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control, production schedules, budgets and sales cycles
• Route cover designs for copyediting and print preparation
• Maintain provided budgets for art direction expenses; code and route invoices for work performed.
• Provides print ready files to the pre-press/production department and uploads final images to our internal system for the feed to external vendors.
• Create and produce quarterly sales and marketing materials samples and booklets, PowerPoint presentations, and sales sheets.
Qualifications
Knowledge:Expert knowledge of graphic design, working knowledge of publishing and book manufacturing processes.
Work Experience: 7+ years minimum in Art Director capacity.
Education:Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field.
Industry Knowledge:Knowledge of publishing, book manufacturing, and marketing is preferable, but not required. Must possess a keen eye for market trends, fashion, and design.
Skills:
• Above-average skill level in Adobe Creative Suite (MAC), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Proven project management and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a variety of deadlines and complexity simultaneously
• Extremely detail oriented
