Editorial Assistant, OprahMag.com
Hearst Digital Media is launching OprahMag.com, a brand new site that will expand O, The Oprah Magazine’s mission to help women live their best lives. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working editorial assistant to write and produce content across the site on topics ranging from breaking news and culture to health, beauty, style, self-care — and, of course, news about Oprah herself. The editorial assistant will also regularly update evergreen service slideshows and galleries and manage various editorial administrative tasks for the team. Since our site is brand new, we’re looking for a go-getter that’s as passionate about the Oprah brand as they are about the potential to join and support a diverse, creative team in this exciting venture.
Key Responsibilities:
• Pitch and write 1-2 newsy original pieces daily, including slideshows, articles, listicles, infographics and more
• Create or update 2-3 service or evergreen galleries daily, with direction from senior editors
• Assist with bringing print stories from O, The Oprah Magazine to life through building stories in CMS, optimizing images, and adding additional content when necessary
• Assist the team’s writers and editors with key editorial production tasks, including building stories, syndicating content, sourcing and optimizing images, researching, and fact-checking
• Handle all contract generation and invoicing tracking, filing, and submissions for the team
• Attend and cover press previews and other industry events as relevant
Required Experience:
• Previous experience writing lifestyle-related content, either in an internship or in a freelance or full-time position at a fast-moving website
• A knowledge of and passion for the Oprah brand
• A clear and creative writing style and voice
• An obsession with all things popular culture and lifestyle
• A strong understanding of social media
• Familiarity with popular women’s interest magazines, websites, blogs, and more
• Knowledge of SEO best practices
• Previous experience with a content management system and social scheduling tools and tactics
