Coordinator, Digital Strategy - MTV, VH1, Logo Social Impact
Overview and Responsibilities
The MTV, VH1, and Logo Social Impact team is charged with using the networks’ superpowers for good. The team develops and manages multi-platform social change initiatives that empower the channels’ audiences to have an impact on the biggest challenges facing the nation. The MTV, VH1, and Logo Social Impact team primarily hold three key roles: 1) developing proactive, ambitious creative campaigns on social issues; 2) supporting on-air and digital show teams through advising on pro-social messaging; and 3) responding in real-time to news events that affect our audience.
The Social Impact team works with all departments – such as marketing, social, digital, development, news – with has a special focus on MTV. MTV’s current anchor campaign is “Look Different,” which is helping America’s youth to better recognize and challenge racial, gender and anti-LGBT biases, but our network has also recently made statements on social issues from #MeToo to gun violence prevention to Dreamers.
We’re a small team, and our Digital Strategy Coordinator has the opportunity to have an outsized impact.
Responsibilities
• Set and achieve ambitious social impact goals for our digital and social platforms
• Lead the development of our team’s digital and social strategy – including goals, platforms, messaging, calls to action, planning, etc. – for all social impact activations
• Lead and participate in brainstorms to develop campaign ideas and tactics
• Project manage the implementation of the team’s activations – working closely with internal stakeholders as well as external partners
• Draft and edit copy for digital platforms, and work closely with production and design teams on visual assets for social and digital
• Own relationships with technology vendors and assist with website development and management, including testing, content management, image cropping, and editorial planning
• Manage day-to-day posts and engagement on the social media accounts for all of our team’s prosocial campaigns (e.g. @LookDifferent)
• Own the tracking of metrics and develop recap reports on all activations
• Willing to complete research, handle team coordination or logistics, and take on administrative tasks as necessary
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• At least one-two years of professional experience (including internships), with a preference for those who have worked in social media or digital. Experience working at a creative agency, forward-thinking nonprofit, or technology company also a plus.
• Deep passion for social justice and effecting social change, with the ability to think like a smart and strategic marketer.
Additional Qualifications
• Ability to rapidly shift between multiple projects and priorities – keeping a clear focus on what really matters
• Exemplary written and oral communications skills. Strong proof-reading
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Digital, social media, and editorial savvy and plugged into pop culture, digital youth culture, and prosocial trends. Deep knowledge and understanding of existing and up-and-coming social platforms is required.
• The coordinator must be available to help us respond to breaking news, which could occur outside standard working hours. S/he must be reliable and willing to pitch in at a moment’s notice on a broad range of tasks, and have the ability to quickly pick up new skills.
• Production skills (photo and video editing) and working knowledge of HTML/CSS are a plus, but not required.
