Job Summary
Manage tax audits, strategy, including researching technical issues, assist with maintaining compliance with state and local tax laws.
Job Description
• Manage North America tax audits, audit strategy, including researching technical issues and maintaining compliance with state and local tax laws.
• Negotiate audit plan, methodology, and scope with state and local auditors. Mitigate exposure by influencing key decisions such as periods to audit, companies to audit, sampling methods, audit completion timeframes, and use of statute waivers.
• Assess audit risk when dealing with the auditors and develop negotiation strategies in resolving audit risks.
• Utilize reverse audit techniques to generate tax savings in connection with state and local income and franchise tax audits.
• Assist in drafting and filing protests and appeals of proposed assessments or final audits.
• Communicate issues identified on audit to the appropriate departments within the company so that corrective actions are taken. Monitor post audit periods to ensure compliance and escalate non-compliance issues when necessary.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or the equivalent in training and experience
• 5-7 years multi-state and local tax experience or the equivalent in training and education
• Organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
• Analytical skills
• Proficient in Excel
• Ability to manipulate large data sets
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to interact with others
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
