Requirements
Purpose of the Role:
The HR Generalist covers a wide range of HR responsibilities, outside of benefits, for the Macmillan Learning division, including ensuring legal compliance and assisting with employee relations and performance management. The HR Generalist will serve as a liaison for managers and department heads in the business units s/he supports, offering HR process guidance and assistance.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the performance improvement process for Macmillan Learning, assisting managers in providing staff feedback and following up on performance improvement metrics, consulting with legal when necessary.
• Communicate, implement and monitor performance review process for assigned functions, supporting employees and managers with the steps, expectations, and general questions surrounding both the process and platform used.
• Work with senior HR management, legal and benefits staff on ER issues in assigned groups, serving as point person for managers, providing advice on performance counselling and addressing employee complaints.
• Manage the off boarding process for voluntary departures including conducting exit interviews and completing necessary paperwork to process final pays.
• Handle off boarding for involuntary departures, including ensuring PIP process has been followed (if necessary), manager rationale is provided to Legal, manager compliance with termination scripts, providing termination documents to exiting employees and shared service teams, and following up on off staff procedures on last day.
• Collect and assess ML salary data to make recommendations to senior HR management and managers about internal compensation trends, parity of salary within similar roles across the organization, bonus plan structure, promotions, raises, transfers and salary adjustments for mid to entry-level staff.
• Develops and conducts training sessions and tips and tricks for HR Assistants in areas of employee onboarding, change processing, and general administration.
• Assists in the development of manager and employee training modules by offering feedback and edits for presentations, supplemental materials and resources, roll out plan, etc.
• Work with managers and the legal department to draft accurate job descriptions, approve FLSA exemption status, create new job codes, ensure that any workplace investigations follow company and legal standards, and mitigate company exposure and risk.
Required Skills and Experience:
• 3-7 years progressive experience in Human Resources
• Understanding of HR legal compliance and regulations
• Excellent writing skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize
• Microsoft Excel and analytical skills
• Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience working with Google product line (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Calendar)
• Experience conducting workplace investigations
• PHR or SHRM-CP
