This role is supporting the K12 Learning Services team.
The Royalty Representative is responsible for interacting with and maintaining a relationship with authors, agents, legal, editors and other royalty groups; conducting research to answer inquiries; analyzing royalty information as it relates to author contracts/statements; and extracting and inputting information into the royalty accounting system to ensure accurate and timely production of royalty statements. Additional responsibilities include disbursement functions and making royalty adjustments, as required. The royalty representative must be able to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines to fulfill corporate and legal obligations. This position will be located in the Hoboken, NJ area.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The representative’s job will involve these functions:
Provide quality customer service, to authors, agents, business units, etc.
Provide accurate accounting based on contractual terms in the royalty accounting systems.
Render accurate and timely royalty statements
Responsible for processing non-royalty statement disbursements (primarily advances)
Perform audits of high profile and select authors
Responsible for making adjustments/changes within the Royalty Accounting System that affect authors’ royalty statements. e.g name and address changes, record reserves, manual earnings, prepayments and subledger transfers.
Ability to answer inquiries related to 1099s and 1042s
Process rights income received from third party licensees to ensure payments to authors
Assist internal and external auditors
Perform research on vendors that may be escheatable
Provide general support to Manager
Perform research using databases and/or contracts
Adhere to internal controls
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Training
Provide on-the-job training when necessary
Participate in system enhancement training
Facilitate and participate in intra-department training
Adapt procedures, processes and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position
Work on special projects, as needed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
3-5 years business experience.
Prior royalties experience a plus.
College degree is desirable, but may be waived for significant relevant work experience.
SKILLS PREFERRED
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications:
Knowledge of general accounting functions
Ability to write Sequel (SQL) queries is a plus
Some knowledge of SAP is desirable, RAS experience
Good math skills
Detail oriented
Good research and analytical skills
Ability to interpret royalty statements and read legal documents
Ability to deal with deadlines and pressure effectively
Customer service experience is desirable
Effective communication (oral & written) skills
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to work both independently without direct supervision and within and across teams
