Overview
Under direction of the Lead Operator, the Production Operator is responsible for feeding hoppers or handling finished bundles of mail when assigned to the inserter. This includes placing correct product in the hopper, maintaining a feeding pace that is sufficient to maintain uninterrupted operation and repairing missed or doubled products in an efficient manner to achieve optimum effectiveness of all products produced.
Responsibilities
• Perform the duties of hopper feeding (up to 3 hoppers) when assigned to the inserter, which includes placing correct product in the hopper, maintaining a feeding pace that is sufficient to maintain uninterrupted operation and repairing missed or doubled products in an efficient manner.
• Strive for a high degree of quality and quantity in all products produced to meet customer requirements.
• Inspect the work area daily, insuring that it is exceptionally clean and well organized.
• Verify product accuracy at the hopper level.
• Requires the ability to regularly meet productivity, shortage, quality, and delivery requirements.
• Monitor automatic equipment including stacker, tiers, conveyors, hopper loader, labelers and printers to ensure quality products are produced.
• Be familiar with and adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including but not limited to policy manual & employee handbook, standards of performance, attendance policy, drug & alcohol policy, housekeeping, safety policy, standard operating procedures, etc.
• Check the quality of inkjet addressing and labeling and to verify and ensure accuracy of sorting carrier route bundle brakes.
• Check the quality of sorting to ensure the carrier route breaks regulations and advertising products are prepared and distributed to the destinations requested. Attach correct pallet flag to skid.
• Maintain effective and open communication with supervisors and co-workers on any matters impacting the production and/or distribution of the product and to report to the supervisor or assistant supervisor other matters requiring his/her attention.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
equires a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Typically requires six months to one-year experience in a high volume production environment, preferably in a high volume shared mail production operation.
Preferred knowledge of newspaper/shared mail equipment including inserters, inkjet printers, stackers, tiers, and pallet moving equipment effectively.
Ability to jog and manipulate paper effectively preferred.
Requires ability to manage & feed multiple hoppers simultaneously.
• Must have the ability to work independently and work under deadline pressure.
• Requires effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel.
Requires a god attention to detail and to recognize and service internal customer needs.
Requires good problem solving & troubleshooting skills.
