Editorial Assistant - Viking
Penguin Random House is seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to the Viking imprint. Reporting to a VP, Executive Editor and Senior Editor, the Assistant will work closely with both editors on an impressive list of fiction titles and nonfiction titles.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Preparing titles for production, overseeing all permissions and illustrations, and managing the entire production process from finished manuscript to bound book.
2. Evaluating manuscripts, writing reader’s reports, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters.
3. Communicating between authors, literary agents, and a variety of internal departments, including Contracts, Production, Permissions, and Marketing.
4. Assisting with cover copy, catalog copy, and title information sheets for hardcovers and paperbacks.
5. Generating all imprint paperwork during acquisition, including sales figures and contract requests.
6. Managing galley and finished book mailings.
7. Providing general administrative support by answering phones, taking messages, filing departmental expense reports, archiving, routing author payments, maintaining hard copy and electronic files, tracking project due dates, fielding questions from authors, etc.

• Prior office experience; prior publishing internship is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others
• A proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
• Proactive with the ability to problem solve creatively
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong follow up skills
• Superb organizational skills
• Ability to work independently as well as on a team
• Proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the ability to learn new programs
• Understanding of social media platforms a plus
