Position Description:
The VP, Marketing is responsible for the strategic use of all marketing assets for the purpose of driving sales and profit growth and furthering our productive relationships with customers, our industry and other business partners. The VP, Marketing has oversight over all Macmillan Learning related marketing initiatives (Higher Education, K-12, Institutional, intra-Holtzbrinck company initiatives with Nature, Scientific American, Palgrave, etc). The VP, marketing leads a team responsible for the execution of marketing strategies that include the entire spectrum of market, focus, business, planning, programs, readiness and support.
Responsibilities:
• Lead marketing efforts to support the Company’s overall marketing strategy and message, and to drive increased sales. Act as the primary decision maker, with input from marketing team leads/directors, on all marketing initiatives.
• Manage a team and provide guidance to overall marketing team on meeting business objectives. Train and support marketing leaders in developing and implementing thoughtful, effective marketing plans, creating and managing the budget that supports the marketing plan, showing clear ROI, and then measuring and delivering on expected results.
• Hire, train and manage the development of the marketing team. The VP will review individual and team performance and offer developmental coaching and performance management as needed.
• Provide oversight on market research; focus groups, surveys. Oversee the analyzation of customer research, current market conditions, market segments, competitor information, pricing strategies, funding opportunities and use it to inform marketing strategy. Review the monitoring, reviewing and reporting on all marketing activities from the internal team and results. Stay abreast of current trends in technology, literacy, funding and legislation.
• Focus on understanding the K-12 and higher education markets and market needs, especially as they relate to initiatives around open educational resources, affordability, student engagement and retention, with an emphasis on understanding the key decision makers and buyers: administrators, instructors, students and librarians.
• Support Macmillan Learning sales teams by attending sales conferences, and managing marketing team to provide sales materials including, but not limited to, positioning statements, value propositions, sales collateral, Power Point decks, and more.
• Collaborate with the Comms team to ensure successful execution of marketing & branding strategies, collateral, and information flow.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
• Must be able to inspire and lead a team, brainstorm effectively within groups, and to work collaboratively across internal teams
• Marketing management and strategic planning experience with a proven track record of developing and administering marketing programs.
• Must have proven skills in data analysis, data-driven campaigns and ROI. Financial knowledge and management a must.
• Proven success with e-marketing campaign tools such as Email Marketing, Web Media, Social Networking (especially Facebook and Twitter), SEM
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Strong project management skills
• Previous experience with Salesforce.com and Marketo a plus.
