HMH is seeking an energetic, driven team player to join their fast-paced internal audit team that is making a difference by driving innovation, process improvement and leading edge internal audit practices. In this highly visible role, the individual will have broad exposure to the finance organization as well as on the Executive level and Audit Committee. The position will report into the Vice President of Internal Audit and project manages the co-sourced execution, monitoring and reporting of compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), working directly with our co-source provider, Deloitte, internal audit staff and our external audit firm, PwC. This role will help develop and deliver stakeholder value by driving operational and process improvement to our SOX process and continue to rationalize key IT and business process controls. The role also will work on other cross functional project teams and leading to add value and drive improvement and achieve HMH’s transformational goals.
Functional Description:

• Lead the SOX Steering Committee and present the status of the Company’s SOX program to executive leaders.
• Manage the co-internal internal audit relationship with Deloitte for SOX control design evaluation and effectiveness testing and manage performance to budget.
• Partner with business leaders on process standardization and key control optimization.
• Helps to develop and deliver training programs to improve overall controls and governance.
• Collaborate with external auditors to ensure a timely and efficient completion of SOX and ensure maximize reliance.
• Evaluates control deficiencies works with stakeholders on remediation.
• Seeks and implements continuous improvement opportunities for internal audit and streamlining the SOX process.
• Develops leading edge internal audit practices with data analytics and agile auditing.
• Builds long-term relationships with senior management to better understand the company’s culture and management directives.
Experience, Skills, and Education:
• 8-10 years of relevant work experience at an external audit firm or in an internal audit role at a public company working on operational audits and SOX compliance.
• Big 4 accounting firm experience.
• CPA or CIA designation required. CISA a plus.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
• Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and IT and business process SOX controls.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Exceptional project management and executive presentation skills.
• Team building and leadership skills to develop a high performing team.
• Strong computer skills and advanced Excel experience.
• Self-motivated team player with positive attitude.
Travel Requirements: Travel up to 10%
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
