The Marketing Manager is responsible for marketing of the Research Intelligence solutions portfolio, with a focus on helping support our flagship solutions aimed to solve major challenges faced by funders as well as the university research office & library. Your focus will primarily be supporting our set of Funding Solutions, including the recently relaunched Funding Institutional. You will also support positioning and development of projects across the broader Research Intelligence portfolio, including a secondary focus on Scopus to support our growing needs to support the interconnection and value perception of our core data assets.
What will you be doing
You will own the go-to-market (GTM) for Funding Solutions, focused on driving revenue and improving the perception of Elsevier as a valuable partner in increasing research performance through effective research management. You will support product launches, demand generation programs and renewals. You will be a key contributor to projects to identify new market opportunities to grow revenue for these solutions as well as the wider RI portfolio when relevant, including Scopus.
You will work closely with colleagues across Elsevier’s Research Marketing team, as well as with product and sales, to develop & iterate use-case based positioning and messaging for Funding Institutional, Expert Lookup and Fingerprinting Solutions. You will also support the development, execution and measurement of content for web, marketing collateral, training and sales enablement/sales tools and key solution-focused marketing assets including white papers, videos and digital assets.
You will be based in New York or Amsterdam, reporting to the Head of Marketing Research intelligence.
Your responsibilities
• Define customer needs through research and direct customer feedback, and provide evidence-based feedback to product managers and leaders. This includes cross-solution (use case-based) workflows that promote solution integration and up-sell across the Research Intelligence portfolio.
• Own curriculum / content for sales training to consistently articulate how our solutions increase research performance in superior way to competitors.
• Interact directly with our vibrant, global user communities to understand evolving user needs, share the latest news about our solutions, and attend various conferences and event to engage directly with clients.
• Develop audience-specific, evidence-based quantifiable messaging framework that tells compelling benefits-oriented stories about the value of the Funding Solutions in addressing the key use cases matching our clients’ needs.
• Work closely with the Audience Marketing teams to implement audience-focused demand-generation and usage-driving campaigns.
• Work closely with Product Management to develop and deliver a roadmap that effectively communicates how Elsevier's offerings increase research performance across all audiences
• Conduct market and competitor analysis for the Funding Solutions to assist our worldwide sales team in beating the competition; this includes conducting win-loss analysis. Serve as an advocate of effectiveness of our solutions and services on meeting customer needs, and ensure teams in marketing, product and sales have first-hand expertise on relevant features and functionality in competitor solutions.
What you should bring
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
• 5-7 years of marketing experience with at least 5 years of solutions marketing experience
• Experience in B2B and solutions marketing
• Experience developing a framework to build customer centricity into all marketing initiatives
• Exceptionally strong customer-focus
• Demonstrated success defining and launching new solutions
• Able to support the development of the GTM plan
• Able to support the development of sales enablement
• Able to lead multiple high priority projects
• Strong financial knowledge, business acumen and overall analytical skills
• Excellent communications and persuasion skills – both spoken and written to develop and give world class presentations to internal stakeholders, customers and partners.
• Experience in working in a cross functional /matrix organization
• Fluent English speaker
