Assistant Manager/Manager of Production, Reprints
Penguin Random House is seeking an Assistant Manager or Manager to join the production team in Penguin Publishing Group! This role will manage the production and manufacturing of reprints for a title list of approximately 2,000 titles a year. Working with a variety of internal departments, including Editorial, Managing Editorial, and Art and Design, this position plays a key role in the process of creating a physical book.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Issuing the book and component purchase orders for the title list’s reprints.
2. Negotiating schedules with the internal publishing teams and with external vendors.
3. Following up with our vendors to ensure that schedules are being held.
4. Ordering and routing approvals for all text and component reprint corrections.
5. Approving necessary invoices.
6. Running P&L estimates for reprints as needed for the sales and inventory teams.
7. Checking for quality issues between reprinted editions, which include color consistency, matching component printings, potential bindings, and interior text print issues on reprint sample copies.
8. Attending reprint meetings as needed and liaising regularly with inventory management, managing editorial, and front list production.
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in book publishing; production experience strongly preferred
• Strong estimating skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organization skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of SAP, FileMaker Pro, InDesign a plus
