Job Description:
The Corporate Audit Department examines and assesses business activities as a service to Dow Jones and News Corp’s management, the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee. It provides an independent assessment of risk and of the effectiveness of internal operating and financial controls.
The Corporate Audit Department provides assessments of:
• The adequacy, appropriateness and effectiveness of internal controls;
• The extent of compliance with company policies and procedures;
• The accuracy and security of data and information;
• The accountability for the Company’s assets to safeguard against loss;
• The economy and efficiency with which resources are employed; and,
• The level of compliance by business partners with contractual arrangements and various regulatory requirements.
The primary responsibility is to plan, supervise, and participate in multiple business process audits (financial and operational) across the Dow Jones business to assure proper controls exist and are functioning; risk is appropriately mitigated; and report findings to management.
The role includes exposure to a broad range of financial and operational processes across the company within the team’s remit. Auditors are required to understand and document these processes, analyze associated risks and their impact, and design and perform tests of controls. Practical solutions should be sought for issues identified by applying business awareness and knowledge.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Involvement in special projects, as needed.
• Provision of assistance and support to the business with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance (including testing of IT application controls).
• Collaborating with the external auditors to maximize reliance opportunities.
• Using data interrogation tools to analyze and examine large volumes of data.
• Maintaining an understanding of the business’ goals, objectives, strategies and risks.
• Participating in risk assessment activities as a conduit for developing, refreshing and validating the risk-based internal audit plan.
• Establishing project objectives, scope, budget and timing; monitoring and communicating deviations from plan and taking corrective actions.
• Understanding and applying Corporate Audit’s methodologies, technology and tools and ensuring compliance with all Corporate Audit policies and procedures.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with business personnel and continually improving client satisfaction.
• Serving as a career counselor and advocate for team members and providing timely performance feedback.
Knowledge and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in business related field. MBA is desired.
• 7 years minimum related, applicable experience (last 3 in a supervisory role), with at least 2 years in public accounting preferred.
• Certification in at least one area (e.g., CIA, CPA, CISA, CMA, CFE, CIRM, CA, CCA, etc.) is desired.
• Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, Audit Command Language (ACL), Tableau
• Well-developed analytical, interpersonal, and communication (both written and verbal) skills
• Ability to travel as needed within and outside the United States.
• Ability to work in excess of standards hours, as needed.
