The Editorial Coordinator is required to work with several Acquiring Editors in different subject areas. The position combines the responsibilities typical of an assistant position with those requiring significant knowledge of the publishing business and of the processes involved in developing a project from contract through final manufacturing. The Editorial Coordinator will work with representatives of all departments to support the development, production, and manufacturing of professional books, curricular resources, and online components.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Communicating with authors on all aspects of projects—the Editorial Coordinator serves as second point of contact when the Acquiring Editor is unavailable
• Working with the Vice President and Publisher of Professional Books and Curricular Resources, Managing Editor, and Production Director to assure projects are done on time and on budget; facilitate communication among parties about the status of projects; maintain and keep project team informed about “big picture” of project including status of all parts in relation to stage of development, schedule, and budget
• Preparing complex projects for proposal and turnover including completion of all database information related to production, preparing and completing of manuscript permissions and releases, and answering questions/concerns from Production, Marketing, Manufacturing, and other staff working on projects
• Coordinating and administering work of outside suppliers and consultants related to editorial stages of product development
• Development work as needed by the Acquiring Editors, including library and internet research, manuscript alterations/preparation, preparation of artwork for scanning
• Overseeing editorial interns as needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required
• Bachelor degree
• Proven success managing complicated projects with multiple demands and numerous stakeholders
• Substantial experience in developing and maintaining systems for organizing multifaceted projects with various contributors
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
Preferred
• Three or more years’ experience in book publishing and/or education field
• Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of publication process from acquisition to finished product
• Affinity for and familiarity with technology and production processes a plus
• Familiarity with databases a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
