Visual Journalist
The York Daily Record needs a visual journalist to work independently and in teams to document the everyday experiences and the extra ordinary moments that make life in and around York County, PA, so very interesting.
This journalist will use a combination of video, photos and words to tell original stories that will sometimes complement the work of reporters, and sometimes stand on their own. This journalist is ready to partner up, and eager to pursue her or his own stories.
Our coverage decisions are based on proven track records. Various tools help us see what works and what does not work for our audiences. We are committed to doing important work, to creating high-quality work, and to doing this in ways that are appealing and effective for broad audiences. You will work closely with your coach and with analytics experts to better understand who your audience is, what they need from you, and how effective you are at reaching them. You will grow your audience by adjusting your coverage and approach based on such research.
Whether you are using a state-of-the-art DSLR or a simple smartphone, or creating your own graphic video, you know how to get the most of any audio/visual opportunity. Indeed, you always expect to get a video playlist, Facebook Live, photo gallery and story out of nearly every story you pursue.
Working closely with USAT and The USAT NETWORK, this journalist will respond quickly to breaking news across the region of southcentral Pennsylvania. You will be part of a breaking news team that responds to major events across the state.
We will use new storytelling and social media approaches to capture new audiences.
Your watchdog journalism will lead to change, at times on a statewide level.
You will develop your own story ideas and drive up highly engaging multimedia news and enterprise stories. Over time, you will develop a specialty sub-beat and you will be our resident expert in that area. You will be in command of what and how you cover that news in the most effective manner, using your newsroom coaches to help with your success.
If you have what it takes to be YDR's next visual journalist, contact News Director Randy Parker at rparker@ydr.com or 717-771-2012.EOE.
