This position is at Hello SWFL, a new team within E.W. Scripps that's looking to change what news covers and how news is delivered.
We're highly experimental and looking to test the boundaries to discover what today's audience is interested in and how Hello SWFL can, as a news organization, deliver that content to them in a new and create way.
As a member of our highly collaborative team, the Supervising Producer will primarily help in the improvement or creation of a digital first news product to uniquely create, sustain, and distribute video independently across OTT, Social, and linear television. You'll need to utilize your expertise with digital, video and TV to be successful. You'll be more than a Producer -- you'll be a member of the Fort Myers community, helping us learn about what matters to the people who live and visit Southwest Florida.
The Executive Producer has overall responsibility for newscasts, including oversight on story selection, content, and production, ensuring that the station is pushing broadcast boundaries within the market.
Key Activities
• Responsible for managing OTT news content and showcasing across all platforms
• Collaborate with Editors, Producers and the assignment desk to select stories for coverage
• Oversee and edit the writing of content, including but not limited to teases and web headlines
• Develop and supervise effective workflow strategies and procedures for multiple programs
• Provide regular feedback on newscast with staff, both as a team and individually
• Supervise pre-production to ensure quality and ethical standards and coordination between Control Room and Design Staff
Education & Experience/Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or related field preferred
• 8-10 years journalism experience; 5 years previous new producing experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
• Ability to create tactics and strategies to increase demo performance in key target areas for multiple platforms
• Have working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations
• Ability to stack a show rundown in various newsroom computer systems, as well as new forms of show production software.
• Experience with multitasking and prioritization in order to meet deadlines.
• Easy-going, positive, and confident attitude to lead our team
• Ability to develop other's skills and create leadership opportunities among staff
