Overview
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking an Assistant Editor to provide administrative and editorial support to a Senior Editor and Editor at Katherine Tegen Books, a high-profile imprint in the Children’s division. The Assistant Editor will support managers on a range of titles, from picture books to young adult fiction and non-fiction, by critically acclaimed and bestselling authors like Tiffany Jackson, Brittany Cavallaro, Armand Baltazar, Corey Ann Haydu, and more.
Responsibilities
• Reads and evaluates manuscript submissions provides feedback and readers reports.
• Drafts rejection letters and acquisitions memos.
• Conducts sales research, runs P&Ls; drafts contract requests and check requests for all projects.
• Helps in monitoring book production schedule for both editors’ titles.
• Reviews layouts at various stages of book development.
• Drafts jacket copy and galley copy.
• Creates title information sheets and reviews marketing material.
• Reads behind managers and provides detailed feedback on titles.
• Supports all information flow and communication with authors, agents, and inter-departmental team members.
• Maintains and updates files and records.
• Prepares expense reports and processes invoices.
Qualifications
• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in publishing or a related field
• Must have a passion for children’s books and keen interest in learning about the marketplace
• Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task; must be highly organized and detail-oriented
• Must be highly creative; writing experience preferred
• Must communicate ideas and opinions clearly and effectively, both in person and in writing
• Must be efficient and self-motivated
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
