The Montgomery Advertiser is looking for an energetic journalist who can cover the most visually captivating stories happening in Montgomery and the surrounding area.
We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable shooting a Friday night football game one day and writing a short feature to accompany a photo package on another. Can you tweet your best shot and video from a breaking news event? Can you give readers a short video clip of a player making the winning basket? How about a produced feature video from an SEC football game? Then this is the place for you.
Giving readers top notch visuals with our other award-winning coverage extends across multiple platforms – print, online and social media. We value journalists’ visual storytelling ability.
A wealth of online photo galleries gives our website’s readers more chances to see the story as no one else can show it.
This photojournalist should expect to use their entire visual and interactive storytelling repertoire at the Advertiser which has won the state’s top newsroom photo award each of the last two years.
Qualifications for the job include:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or photography
• Daily newspaper experience preferred
• Exceptional core photojournalism skills and ethics
• A passion for video storytelling, with the ability to complete a long-form project as well as break down a complex subject into a quick, social-friendly video
• Proficiency using photo and video editing software, including Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and Photo Mechanic
• Ability to write accurate, detailed captions with correct spelling, grammar along with proper AP and local style
• Understanding of social media and how to engage fan bases on digital platforms
• Effective communication skills and ability to get along with diverse personalities
• Ability to multitask, adapt and use time efficiently under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry
