Principal Duties and Responsibilities
As a Cloud Product Services Architect, you will translate customer experiences and product features into capabilities provided across our cloud and product platforms. You will bring an end-to-end perspective to product development that considers all aspects of the Bose ecosystem - cloud services, mobile applications, and audio products – along with the range of software technologies and infrastructure to deliver on the promise of modern connected products and experiences. You will work with partners in Product Marketing, User Experience, and Product Engineering to convert vision into reality.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing and implementing cloud microservices that serve millions of users and interact with complex applications and / or smart devices, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Role
• Contributing member of teams that define technical approach, system and software architecture, and API design of connected consumer products and experiences
• Learn and deeply understand the range of internal platforms that contribute to connected consumer products and experiences
• Create technical approach and design for new features that employ capabilities in multiple platforms
• Explore and clearly define the gaps between current platform capabilities and those needed to realize new features
• Drive new capabilities requirements in our platforms to support the development of new product features
• Work with engineers and architects in platform and product teams to adopt industry best practices (tools, environments, processes, security, etc.)
Responsibilities include:
• Contribute to an enthusiastic and talented team of Software Engineers to bring new products and compelling experiences to the market
• Hands-on development of cloud microservices and platforms providing functionality to Bose products and mobile applications and third-party integrations
• Collaborate with cloud and mobile software teams to develop product features and services, and to define APIs between product, mobile app, and cloud
• Build platforms by architecting reusable building blocks enabling faster and more efficient product creation
• Work with QA on developing testing processes, frameworks, and automation strategies
• Focus on innovating new and better ways to create solutions that add value and amaze users, focusing on simple, powerful design
• Stay up to date on relevant technologies, plug into user groups, understand trends and opportunities to ensure we are using the best techniques and tools
• Work with DevOps and Platform Infrastructure groups to design strategy for deployment, maintenance, monitoring, etc.
Qualifications:
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent; advanced degree a plus
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
• Strong sense of ownership, passionate, fast learner, detail-oriented, analytical, drive for perfection
• 10+ years designing and building complex systems such as networked equipment or consumer products
• 3+ years architecting and implementing large-scale microservices cloud systems that support users worldwide on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• System thinker with excellent understanding of software system architecture, operating system fundamentals, API designs, and system security.
• Ability to balance processes and innovation. Apply enough processes to improve efficiencies and increase predictability without loss of creativity.
• Maturity to manage by influence vs. status.
• Expert skills in microservices development using Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar language
• Extensive experience using and developing REST APIs with tools such as RAML and Swagger / OpenAPI
• Active engagements with professional groups and SIGs in fields such as software engineering, cloud computing, IoT, and security
Highly Desirable:
• Experience integrating with voice personal assistants and / or streaming music services
• Experience integrating with third-party cloud services
• Familiarity with mobile application or embedded device development
• Knowledge of best practices for implementing security in connected consumer products
• Prior experience as CTO, Software Architect, Lead Engineer, or similar
