Associate Buyer, Gift
Job Description
We are currently looking for a passionate individual to join Barnes & Noble’s Gift and Stationary team. This is an exciting high-growth opportunity and a key focus of the business.
As the Associate Buyer, you will work closely with the Buyer of Gift, the vendor community and the allocations team to provide an outstanding assortment of Gift and Stationary for B&N stores and B&N.com. Responsibilities include managing an open to buy for all Buyer’s subjects, item, category and vendor projections, creating twice yearly planograms and attending relevant trade shows.
Essential Functions
Position Responsibilities:
• Responsible for collaborating with Buyer(s) to develop merchandise assortment and business strategies that drive sales and profitability.
• Participate in the forecasting and analysis of business results, identifying key industry trends, planning product assortment and negotiating with vendors.
• Develop competitive customer and market strategies that involve targeted merchandise selection, proper assortment planning and accurate pricing plans.
• Execute sales, margin percent and inventory plans.
• Assume complete responsibility for a portion of the Buyers overall business and manage the processes necessary to achieve or exceed sales and profitability objectives for that area.
• Monitor and respond to issues and opportunities resulting from deviations in plan variances, and share concerns with Buyers.
• Provide information to support micro-merchandising strategies and review with team.
• Assist in establishing replenishment strategies and identify items as replenishment candidates.
• Analyze sales trends, key items, vendor profitability, and aged inventory and make recommendations for driving improved performance.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
• Possess a solid background in both merchandising and store operations
• Proven ability to identify and quantify sales opportunities and market trends as well as translate financial data to make effective recommendations and decisions
• Strong negotiation and decision making skills
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Strong Excel
Position Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• Minimum of 3 years experience in an Assistant Buyer role
