SUMMARY OF POSITION
• The Director Security & Guest Services is responsible for directing all day-to-day operations of the Security and Guest Services Department and general building safety and security at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• MANAGES SECURITY DEPARTMENT STAFF AND CONTRACT LABOR. Manages security personnel and contract labor at all times.
• DIRECTS ALL BUILDING SAFETY AND SECURITY
• EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS AND CRISIS SCENARIOS: Manages Emergency Evacuation and Crisis Scenario situations, practices and drills.
• TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM: Oversees venue transportation program so that transportation during events run smoothly to provide exceptional customer service to client(s). This may include freight, taxis, buses, passenger vehicles and/or pedestrians.
• FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Has overall responsibility for departmental budget (development, maintenance, management).
• CONTRACT LABOR: Collaborates with Management during RFP process for Contract Labor provider. May advise on contract content. Manages contract labor schedule.
• SAFETY: Responsible for conducting regularly scheduled training regarding various building security and safety topics (e.g., OSHA Safety, CPR/AED/First Aid training, Safety Orientations, Monthly Safety Topics) to employees. Manages department portion of the company Safety Manual. Chairs HCC Safety, Fire, Health & Security Committee. Service as Safety Officer on Safety Committee.
Required Qualifications (Job Knowledge, Skills, and Education):
• MANAGE EVENT SECURITY CONTRACTORS: responsible for managing the security service vendors for event clients
• PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Lead, develop/create, maintain and oversee special projects and security initiatives/objectives related to all aspects of building safety including capital improvement projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION):
• A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year) in Criminal Justice or related area
• A minimum of 10 years of related work experience
• State of Hawai‘i Board of Private Security Certification
• Demonstrated ability to follow departmental and company procedures accurately and efficiently.
• Able to inspect equipment with a high level of detail.
• Maintains a professional, positive and friendly demeanor/attitude.
• Excellent customer service, listening and communication skills
• Experience with defusing and resolving situations with patrons/customers, demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly specific instructions and explanations.
• Must be able to remain in an extended stationary position for entire shift (8-10 hours).
• Must be able to walk, run or move quickly to respond to emergency situations.
• Must be able to work varied shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays and additional hours as venue schedule requires.
• First Aid, CPR/AED Certification. Able to proficiently operate life safety systems and maintain solid working knowledge of emergency procedures.
• Proficient in report writing.
• Maintain a working knowledge of security and transportation processes and best practices
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word; Excel); and ability to learn all required business systems
• Strong leadership skills.
• Must work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community so as to provide exceptional customer service while demonstrating behaviors that reflect AEG / Hawai‘i Convention Center’s vision, mission statement and values.
• Vocational training in security is preferred
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
• Hours of work and days vary depending on event schedules.
• The Hawai‘i Convention Center is a twenty-four hour per day, seven day per week security operation therefore, availability to work must be flexible.
• Availability to work additional hours, holidays and/or weekends, as schedule requires.
