Vice President Sales, Marketing Solutions – USA Today Network Wisconsin

Reporting to the President of our Metro Midwest Team this role is responsible for the strategic, financial and operational success of the USA TODAY Network Wisconsin and associated products. The primary focus is to drive sales performance to exceed goals and represent the community by building strategic partnerships that improve position in the market place. This is accomplished in part through effective change leadership within a highly consolidated and matrix organizational structure, a strong customer-first focus and by having a firm understanding of the changing digital-media landscape and the opportunities and impacts to our business. The successful Vice President of Sales will hire and hold employees accountable for business results and establish a performance-oriented world class sales culture focused on winning. The four key responsibility areas are sales execution and leadership; market strategy and collaboration; achieving a culture of success; and community leadership and engagement. The ideal candidate will have a record of delivering results in both “traditional” and “new” media environments, and deeply understand digital advertising and marketing.
The Vice President Sales, Marketing Solutions (digital and print revenue) is a transformational role that will serve as a critical leader for the USA TODAY NETWORK Wisconsin, within the Metro Midwest team. This person will be responsible for developing innovative and impactful integrated sales strategies that will drive revenue for the USA TODAY Network Wisconsin. The successful candidate will leverage his/her contact base within the advertising market-place among both digital/print clients and agencies. You will lead sales efforts and directly contribute to the revenue development and the overall growth of the business.
This role will be based in Wisconsin from will travel the State from Milwaukee to Green Bay. We offer relocation assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership of the organization and setting the strategic vision, with a primary focus on sales and revenues.
• Attract, retain and develop world class talent that is highly motivated; inspire and expect high performance.
• Lead world class sales and marketing efforts to achieve company objectives.
• Manage core and new growth revenue streams; guide and motivate the sales team to exceed expectations.
• Provide tactical and strategic advertising sales leadership, driving revenue growth through direct sales and sales leadership.
• Develop and oversee advertising strategies that will have a direct impact on the company’s revenue and profitability, ensuring the attainment or exceeding of sales goals and growing the business (specifically, in the areas of native/branded content, programmatic, mobile, video, search and social.)
• Drive execution of all phases of the sales process from prospecting and presenting, to negotiating and closing.
• Establish and build effective relationships with brand advertisers and agencies.
• Identify, research and approach new accounts; fortify and grow business from existing accounts.
• Develop pricing, packaging, messaging and go-to-market approaches that will garner advertising interest.
• Work closely with client services to monitor and optimize campaigns.
• Recruit, build and motivate a best-in-class sales team that is engaged, results-oriented and will achieve revenue objectives exceeding total annual quota targets.
• Develop and maintain a relationship with senior management; communicate results and engage the local sites in best strategic approach to clients to maximize revenue.
• Encourage a cross platform approach with advertisers utilizing other Gannett assets
• Employing sales best practices this leader will utilize market intelligence and research to build sales and will be proficient at selling to all levels of buyers and clients.
• Facilitate cross department collaboration with internal stakeholder to continuously improve results
Required Experience/Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10 years’ successful sales experience in a competitive media marketplace along with successful integrated sales (with a heavy emphasis on digital), or sales management experience.
• Successful candidate will bring deep experience in multi-platform advertising/media sales within the digital and print media industry.
• Knowledge and selling experience with native/branded content, programmatic, mobile and video.
• A proven media sales team leader with the ability to drive a growing sales organization in a highly competitive market; will have established relationships within the advertising industry across the country including brand and agency relationships.
• Documented success in leading, building, coaching and motivating a media sales team, including managing remote staff.
