JOB SUMMARY
The Dir, Accounts Payable ensures that departmental and functional procedures, internal controls, and reporting conform to company procedures, while directing specific areas within the overall department operation. Must be able to operate independently and professionally and have significant influencing skills to be used across the business.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Maintains an understanding of finance concepts, methods, standards, principles, and technology, and makes sound decisions and recommendations
Provides support, training, mentoring, and development to reporting staff on an ongoing basis to ensure the department performs at a maximum performance level. Plans, schedules, and directs staff to promote efficiency in completing their job responsibilities
Supports and applies strategic plan for AP Department consistent with the strategic vision of management
Directs AP operations, processes, and strategies as a shared services operation, meeting all deadlines and related responsibilities in support of the business
Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of current and evolving best practices and industry trends
Guides and influences people, processes, and resources to support the best interests of the business
Builds trusting relationships with business leaders and partners
Adapts to shifting priorities while maintaining focus on the broader business
Leads non-routine special projects that may include reporting and analysis for internal departments, technology enhancements and system upgrades
Supports the internal, external audit processes and directs the documentation of procedures to comply with SOX requirements for the area of responsibility
Consistently examines trends in the existing data to uncover opportunities for improvement and efficiency in the business
Leads a team to meet business deliverables timely, and fosters a customer centric culture focused on supporting the needs of internal customers
Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and straight-forward manner
Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills
Developed verbal and written communication skills
An in-depth understanding of accounting controls
Ability to supervise and motivate others
Strong computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access
Knowledge of Accounting theory and procedures
Knowledge of JD Edwards software or other preferred ERP
Experience with a P2P application (Ariba Preference)
Strong business planning and forecasting skills
Ability to focus on overall strategy of the region
Strong team and relationship building skills
Ability to analyze data and develop and present data driven reports
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience
CPA/Master’s preferred
Related Work Experience Number of Years
General ledger accounting work experience 8-10
Supervisory experience 5+
Industry related accounting work experience preferred
