Overview
The primary responsibility of the News Editor is to edit in a concise, efficient and timely manner any assigned news broadcast video/audio. The News Editor also ensures the video in newscasts meet our video/audio quality standards.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operate non-linear editing systems, primarily Final Cut Pro X.
2. Complete editing assignments under extreme deadline pressure.
3. Monitors and records microwave/satellite/cellular bonding feeds.
4. Knowledge of FTP clients, servers and file sharing workflows.
5. Operate digital routers.
6. Troubleshoot editing-related equipment problems, report malfunctions and works with Engineering Dept. to resolve the issue.
7. Communicate directly with Photographers, Reporters and Producers.
8. Ability to adapt to changes with digital technology.
9. Ensure Video and Audio match scripts.
10. Ensure Video and Audio meet KFSM standards.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs other duties as assigned.
2. Work with other departments for video needs.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in non-linear video editing applications. Experience using PC and Mac computers. Ability to type. Ability to handle telephones and other such equipment. Must possess a valid State Driver's License (or be able to get one). Must be willing to submit to a background check. Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Dexterity to operate buttons, switches and knobs on editing equipment. Ability to communicate in office settings. Ability to view computer screens for extended length of time. Ability to drive news vehicles.
