Role Purpose:
Elsevier continues to build an innovative team in Philadelphia to develop next generation learning experiences and redefine healthcare education. Our UX team works boldly and collaboratively on concepts and designs for a user-centric suite of teaching and learning tools. We now require a Senior UX Specialist to conduct user research, run usability studies, and create concept and interaction designs for our education products. Join a team of 10 UX professionals that has strong support from upper management to lead UX/UI, will give you autonomy in your work and will support you to learn and grow in your career.
Key Responsibilities:
• As a Senior UX Specialist, you’ll co-lead an agile product squad with the tech lead and product manager. You will also work closely with other UX specialists, visual designers, frontend and backend engineers, and other internal teams to help deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Understand user research needs and then create research plans using the most appropriate methods and execute them.
• Professionally conduct research sessions by listening compassionately to our users. You will quickly and accurately summarize the feedback to bring back key information to the team.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to determine what features should be included and how key user interactions should be designed.
• Create conceptual wireframes to communicate possible solutions to user needs and generate new product ideas.
• Present research findings and wireframe concepts in a professional manner, and provide clear explanation based on design principles and research findings.
• Continuously strengthen your knowledge and skills in everything UX related. Share the awesome things you learn with the team.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience (5+ years) conducting user research and usability studies. Also skilled with various research methods, card sorting, innovation games, and survey writing.
• Experience (3-5 years) creating wireframes and interaction designs.
• Online portfolio of exemplary wireframe and user research deliverables.
• A passion for building easy to use, delightful user experiences.
• A love for talking to users and learning about what they do and how they work.
• Innate ability to understand complex systems and problems and ability to see the big picture. You think strategically, but can practically apply it without getting lost in the clouds.
• Awesome listening and personal interaction skills. Did you hear that?
• Expert knowledge of UX and interaction design best-practices and patterns.
• Excellent attention to detail – you should notice even the smallest inconsistencies.

Preferred
Qualifications:
• Formal education in interaction design, user research, human-factors or the like
• Experience designing complex web applications (beyond marketing/brochure websites).
• Experience designing mobile native apps and mobile web apps.
• Web accessibility experience.
• Visual design experience.
• Front-end development experience. Some understanding of what’s technically feasible, and when to ask.
• Experience working in an agile environment with issue tracking tools to track daily work.
