Description
Responsibilities
• Installation of the database server and related application tools
• As new systems are introduced choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, or other technologies
• Allocating system storage and provide capacity planning for future storage requirements.
• Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
• Guide the management, growth and strategic improvement of Tivo’s databases and related consumer products.
• When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
• Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
• Ensure Backup and recovery planning for all database servers in partnership with backup teams in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
• Test backups to ensure we can meet the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
• Deploy database change scripts provided by release management and engineering
• Report / query generation on as needed basis
• Provide Tier 3 / SME and on-call support for database servers and related infrastructure. (Yes, this means working some odd hours to lessen impact on our customers)
• Provide escalation point for resolving complex problems requiring advanced skills and research capability
• Schedule and implement regular patches and upgrades per established process which includes working in coordination with development, platform engineering, security, and quality assurance teams
• Maintain vendor relationships and ensure compliance with database vendor license agreement
• Provide support knowledge sharing, authoring, and maintenance of system run books and documentation
• Establish and define automated system installation/configuration procedures where appropriate
Requirements
• Basic Windows and/or Linux Administration
• Advanced to expert knowledge/ experience with various SQL Server versions
• Advanced to expert knowledge/ experience with HA features such as Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering, High Availability Groups, Mirroring etc
• Backup and Disaster Recovery
• Security Best Practices Administration and consultation related to databases and host system
• Error investigation, troubleshooting, and Root Cause Analysis
• Advanced knowledge of Configuration, Virtualization, and Cloud Technologies
• Experience managing multiple database instances on a single system
• Managing large data replicas across the enterprise, including WAN / Multi-site
