The Director of Properties (DOP) is the day-to-day sales and tactical lead for USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s largest and most compelling properties, including: Amway Coaches Poll, American Family Insurance ALL-USA, Ad Meter, March Madness Brackets and Super 25, among others. His/her primary responsibilities are to lead and collaborate with Sales and Client Solutions; to implement a fluid and compelling pitch and sales strategy across the USA TODAY Sports Media Group portfolio; meet revenue goals; and, work with your supervisor to manage account lists, including the trafficking of RFPs, media plans, IOs, campaign reports, invoicing and weekly reports. The DOP also holds higher-level sports marketing agency, media agency and client relationships and a proven track record for successfully driving sponsorship, media and branded content revenue. The DOP must be able to clearly articulate USA TODAY Sports properties, products and our largest integrated sales opportunities to clients and agencies, working with our Client Solutions and Account Management teams to ideate, refine, win and execute against program deliverables. A successful DOP will oversee all day-to-day activities, have self-motivated leadership capabilities, set strategy and have the ability to quarter-back communications between multiple divisions within Gannett including: National Sales, Client Solutions, Account Management, Editorial, Product, Marketing, PR & Social teams, and the ability to direct, manage, problem solve, and drive success in these large, typically multi-year offerings. The DOP comprehends modern media and marketing strategies, assets and KPI’s, and can successfully manage an extensive list of accounts and initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a creative seller and marketer with impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail — possessing a deep list of agency and client contacts, the ability to foster new relationships, and a proven sales record. He/she is a team player that can strategize, manage critical details and execute flawlessly in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for a 70/30 blend of "hunter/manager" — someone with a collaborative spirit, results-oriented mindset, positive outlook, proactive personality and drive to overachieve.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
• Strong working knowledge of USA TODAY Sports products, assets and capabilities, and the ability to competently communicate that to the marketplace
• Develop and implement quarterly sales plans and activities
• Establish and maintain successful, productive relationships with agency and client contacts
• Employ creative thinking and ideation to increase property value
• Work closely and efficiently with teammates in National Sales and Sports Marketing maximize revenue opportunities
• Deep understanding of client directives, ability to translate goals into ideas, and successfully sell them through
• Work closely and respond fluidly in a fast-passed environment that may include multiple internal and external touch points
• Add creative insight and problem-solving to all of the above on a consistent basis
• Possess strong writing, editing and presentation skills
Requirements:
• BA/BS in Communications/Marketing/Integrated Marketing
• 7+ years of comparable media sales and/or sports related agency experience - Travel up to 15% for client meetings and/or events - Willing to work nights and weekends - Strong strategic, solutions and tactical sales skills - Strong presentation and communications skills - Team player who demonstrates solid business ethics and integrity - Strong initiative, leadership skills, work ethic and attention to detail - Ability to work independently and multi-task in a team-oriented environment - Excels working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where client satisfaction is critical - Be awesome
