Overview
This position will report into the VP Reporting and Technical Accounting. Among other responsibilities, the Technical Accounting Manager will assess complex accounting issues, including research of GAAP and SEC guidance, and will interpret, present, explain and document such issues to management and external auditors. Additionally, this high-profile position frequently meets and collaborates with Executive management and employees outside of the finance organization, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
• Research US GAAP and applicable SEC rules and regulations, including: mergers and acquisitions, discontinued operations, noncontrolling interests, treasury activity and hedging, derivatives, investments, revenue recognition, leases, taxes and others as they arise
• Document accounting conclusions in formal memos and work with external auditors to support accounting positions
• Support the adoption of new accounting standards, including the leasing pronouncement
• Interpret contracts and prepare technical memos addressing accounting conclusions
• Assist with financial audits including reconciliations, support documentation, and communication with external auditors
• Complete the annual goodwill impairment testing for the Company’s reporting units
• Assist with and provide support for SEC reporting process, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings – contribute to preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes, and management discussion and analysis
• Interact with cross-functional teams
• Manage and update accounting policies
• Miscellaneous projects as necessary
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance
• CPA required
• 6+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including Big 4 public accounting experience with technical accounting research responsibilities
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, including the ability to manipulate spreadsheets, create pivot tables and summarize data from multiple sources
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and SEC guidance and ability to assess, analyze and thoroughly document accounting positions
• Ability to problem solve, work independently and multi-task in fast-paced environment
• Exceptional project and time management skills
• Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
