The Opportunity – Lead Business Intelligence Developer
The Lead Business Intelligence Developer is a key technical leadership role for implementing Enterprise Business Intelligence solutions across HMH. This position reports to the Director, Business Intelligence. The Lead BI Developer will leveraging existing data solutions available within the organization as well as research into future BI innovations. They will participate as a technical expert in design and development of database, reporting, and analytical solutions throughout the development life cycle. The effort will also require the individual to high level understanding of the business applications that will be the sources for the BI solutions. The specific responsibilities will include BI platform design, development, support and maintenance. The Lead BI developer will also coach and mentor Jr. level employees. This position will require a level of business acumen for a high level of interaction with business stakeholders. This position is located in Boston, Massachusetts or Orlando, FL
Duties & Responsibilities:
• BI Platform Administration, Architecture, Advanced Report Writing, Dashboard Development
• Technical database and BI solution design documents
• Internal Customer support of business processes, queries and reporting tools
• Interfacing with other BI Developers, internal business customers and others to drive data needs into meaningful BI solutions
• Technical duties will include Database Design, ETL Database Development, Research, and analysis.
Skills & Requirements:
• Experience in Business Intelligence Platform (Currently MicroStrategy Version 10.x - administration, monitoring, schema development)
• Experience in report writing, analytics, visualizations, dashboard creation, and mobile BI development
• Seven plus years SQL database development experience (intermediate to advanced SQL Writing and table administration).
• Experience in database ETL tools and services to transfer, aggregate and process data.
• Experience in relational database design and usage, as well as dimensional, star-schema models.
• Ability to lead a technical team of developers towards implementing database solutions though a development life cycle.
• Experience in interacting with Business Analysts to help drive reporting and analytical requirements.
• Experience in cloud database technologies
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), the drive to succeed and work independently and on a team, with the ability to multi task, and deliver quality results
• Very strong technical and database skills are essential.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem solving techniques in a highly complex environment using leading edge technology and/or integrating with diverse application systems
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and all phases of the development life cycle. Agile Development Experience a plus.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar. Master's Degree a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
