Microsoft Theater is centrally located within L.A. LIVE is a 4 million square foot / $3 billion downtown Los Angeles sports and entertainment district adjacent to STAPLES Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center featuring Microsoft Theater, a 7,100-seat live theatre, a 2,300 capacity live music venue, a 54-story, 1001-room convention “headquarters” destination (featuring The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles and JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE hotels and 224 luxury condominiums – The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE – all in a single tower) , the GRAMMY Museum, the 14-screen Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 theatre, broadcast facilities for ESPN along with entertainment, residential, restaurant and office space.
The Assistant Manager Production is responsible for event related logistics at Microsoft Theater. This role works with the production management team on pre-event, on-site, and post-event support, as outlined below. This role is required to work a varied schedule, including all Microsoft Theater events, concerts, special events, normal business hours and occasional campus wide events. The Assistant Manager reports to the Director Production and interact with all Microsoft Theater team members.

Essential Functions:
Pre-Event and On-Site Event Support
• Supervise and direct in house crew (and stagehands) to facilitate event set-ups and needs
• Act as Manager on Duty for events
• Oversee assigned events from client walk-through to event planning, execution, and settlement
• Service clients for VIP Receptions, special events and sponsorship activation for events
• Work with internal departments to collect relevant show information for the venue production notes
• Act as primary liaison in providing and determining client needs in order to make the event successful
• Collaborate with management staff on various front-of-house events
• Make immediate decisions and communicate with Production staff in emergency situations.
Post Event Support
• Produce event recaps and update digital and physical show files
• Prepare stagehand payroll summaries
• Respond to recap emails following every event. Prevent/resolve staff related issues by working in conjunction with Human Resources, Union representatives and Team Members.
• Serve as escalation point to ensure compliance with STAPLES Center policies and procedures as well as the Local 33 and Local 768 union contract.
Administrative Duties
• Organize and maintain physical and digital event filing system
• Schedule meetings and walk-throughs for upcoming events at direction of management
• Attend weekly campus event meetings
• Implement and enforce facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Anticipate problems and appropriate solutions.
Special Projects:
• Assist Production Management team with special projects/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications (Job Knowledge, Skills, and Education):
1. A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree in related field
2. A minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in a live entertainment facility (i.e. theatre, arena, sports venue, concert venue, stadium)
3. Experience supervising and providing work direction to employees
4. Knowledge of stagehand practices and techniques, including IATSE stagehand practices and union contracts is preferred
5. General knowledge of sound, lighting, video, rigging, staging and other basic event production items
6. Working knowledge of standard trade tools and equipment
7. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
8. Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
9. Ability to read, understand and implement artist riders
10. Ability to work under pressure, recognize problems and find solutions
11. Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of day-to-day tasks
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
13. Extremely organized and detailed oriented
14. Ability to work with a flexible schedule, which includes: days, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.
15. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and OneNote); and ability to learn required business systems
16. Knowledge of “front of house” patron practices and procedures
17. Basic knowledge of AutoCad software a plus
Physical Requirements:
1. Climb scaffolding, “A” frame ladder, and cat walks.
2. Ability to appropriately use standard trade tools.
3. Ability to read stage plots and to detect subtle shades of color
4. Ability to pick up lighting equipment and instruments.
5. Ability to work long, irregular hours on your feet for an extended period of time as dictated by events’ schedule – this will include weekends and holidays
6. Ability to lift 50-lbs and move general event items (bike racks, stanchions, stage decks, etc)
7. Tolerance and patience under adverse conditions, such as loud noises
