Description
The E.W. Scripps Company, an enterprise media company, is seeking an Assistant Manager, Risk Management. This person manages the Workers' Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability program and claim process throughout the claim lifecycle. Actively participates on all contract negotiations involving insurance, indemnity, or other pure risk assumptions or provisions prior to the execution of the contracts to ensure the Company's needs are satisfied and protected. Acts as technical expert to provide strategic overview of risk management program to other Company departments and subsidiaries. Establishes insurance budgets and allocates insurance premiums for company and all subsidiaries. This position is in Cincinnati, OH.
Key activities:
Workers' Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability program
• Builds, maintains and manages working relationships with insurers, attorneys, insurance adjusters and Scripps leadership and other personnel and interacts with them directly on claim matters
• Monitors subrogation opportunities
• Directs investigation and defense strategy
• Negotiates coverage-related disputes
• Evaluates insurance company reserve increases and settlement requests
• Creates and publishes guidelines on the handling of all casualty claims involving the company. Prepares quarterly reporting for claim reserve analysis
• Arranges annual claims review meeting and leads discussions with division management, carrier claims adjusters and local Scripps personnel
• Negotiates closure of inactive policies and return of letter of credit
Contract negotiations
• Establishes indemnity and insurance standards for contracts
• Creates event specific waivers and vendor/exhibitor agreement
• Issues bonds to ensure the Company's needs are satisfied and protected
• Issues and requests insurance certificates to ensure compliance with various contract requirements
Risk management program liaison to other Company departments and subsidiaries
• Integrates new acquisitions into Scripps' insurance programs
• Utilizes internal and external resources to respond to unique questions and issues relating to claims, certificate of insurance requests, facility use, vehicle use, car rentals, promotional events, sales events, etc.
• Analyze and report on significant insurance issues
Insurance premiums
• Manages and oversees payment of all vendor invoices in a timely fashion under the GLAP system
• Collaborates with the risk management team to select and manage policy placement with insurance brokers, insurance carriers, third party administrators and other necessary risk management service providers
• Reviews insurance policies for completeness of coverage and technical language
Additional Responsibilities

Education & Experience/Certifications
• BS/BA required
• 3 - 5 years' experience in insurance / risk management / claims administration preferred
Skills & Abilities
• Able to work and manage multiple objectives with minimal supervision
• Excellent knowledge of risk management practices
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Self-motivated, ability to perform effectively while performing multiple tasks
• Strong analytical, interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
