Overview
Harlequin is currently seeking a VP Publicity & Trade Communications to provide leadership and strategic direction for publicity supporting all adult and teen imprints, series romance publishing, and company communications to trade and library marketing. For this newly created role, ideal candidate will have substantial experience managing a large team, developing media relations strategy as well as oversee the execution of the strategy, creating and maintaining a network of broadcast, print and digital media contacts and designing and executing high-impact campaigns.
Responsibilities
• Develop overall trade publishing publicity strategy.
• Oversee strategy and implementation of title-specific publicity plans.
• Manage and mentor a team of publicity and library marketing professionals.
• Publicize books and authors; work with team to develop and support individual title publicity plans
• Develop and maintain substantive relationships with key broadcast, print, and digital media contacts.
• Participate in and contribute publicity perspective to key internal meetings, including senior staff meetings, acquisitions meetings, and marketing meeting.
• Develop and oversee publicity strategy and execution to support series romance business including individual series product lines and authors for Harlequin.
• With Library Marketing Manager, develop strategy and implement the adult and school library marketing outreach efforts across our trade publishing program across North America.
• Oversee publicity and annual and regional library conference budgets.
• Develop the overall trade communications strategy and execution plans.
• Improve the understanding and awareness of corporate publishing programs and activities across the trade.
• Support program/departmental improvement initiatives, including continued cost, process efficiencies/integration and stopping tasks that do not provide return on effort.
Qualifications
• 10+ years’ experience in publicity in publishing
• Communications, marketing or business degree
• Experienced at developing publicity strategies
• Strong contacts in publishing and author community
• Able to manage multi competing initiatives
• Experienced at measuring ROI for initiatives
• Exceptional communications skills, verbal & written
• Social media savvy and continually adapting social these across publicity channels
• Outstanding rapport building and networking skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal business teams to achieve outstanding business results
• Strong decision making and judgement skills
• Experienced leader, with strong management skills and ability to coach, provide feedback and grow talent
