Director, Research & Insights
The Research & Insights Director is a respected voice of the customer to SapientRazorfish clients and the industry as a whole, leveraging deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques to build boundary-breaking insights that connect consumers and business customers with reimagined strategies to deliver next-generation experiences that deliver unprecedented value.
Empathetic, rigorous and flexible, the Director inspires SapientRazorfish and client people to embrace the opportunities offered by being radically customer-centric by articulating the value of the opportunities that the unmet (and often unstated) needs of consumers offer in a world that is rapidly digitally transforming.
The Director is also a leader in mentoring and growing talent, both in SapientRazorfish’s Consumer Intelligence group (where the role sits), as well as the broader SR and Publicis Groupe community. The Director is passionate about mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge, and investing in the success of every individual he or she manages.
A senior role, Directors can expect to build deep relationships with senior executives (including C-level clients) at the world’s largest and most innovative brands, as well as designing, scoping, pitching and overseeing tracks of research work that incorporate the latest in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
The Director can expect to serve as research and insights lead for one or more key accounts, as well as taking on additional project work as appropriate and feasible. The Director also plays an active role in business development, preparing proposals and participating in sales presentations. He/she may participate in industry groups, speak at industry events, and publish thought leadership.
Core Duties/Responsibilities:
Engagement Management & Delivery
• Collaborating with clients and colleagues to scope, articulate, build, price and execute sophisticated and future-facing insight strategies that maximize an understanding of relevant opportunities
• Overseeing successful team execution and delivery of insights and research – including ethnography, contextual inquiry, deep-structured interviewing, surveying, remote digital contextual inquiry, instrumented intelligence, and other advanced methods -- as part of an integrated-thinking approach on client engagements
• Cross-functionally engaging with SR_ colleagues in other disciplines to deliver world-class digital transformation outcomes
• Facilitate workshops, presentations and other structured delivery moments with key clients to enhance and embed the value of insights in key client engagements
IP and Methodology Leadership
• Partnering with peers and team members across SapientRazorfish and Publicis Groupe to develop, iterate and extend innovative research and insights methods that help our clients realize the opportunities of the digital transformation imperative
• Engaging with the broader community, as well as key industry verticals, to share relevant insights and thought leadership to enhance the stature of SapientRazorfish and Publicis Groupe
• Qualitative & quantitative research thought leadership, strategy and execution
Management & Leadership
• Manage one or more primary researchers as direct manager, including a focus on personal and career development
• Serve as a trusted leader in the global Consumer Intelligence research team
• Build strategic direction for the team as a whole in concert with other senior leaders
Organization & Governance
• Advise clients (VP to C-Level) on opportunities and best practices for building an effective understanding of customer needs throughout the journey
• Provide recommendations on segmentation, taxonomy, experience requirements, innovation opportunities and other insights emerging from research
• Serve as a client-facing credible advocate of SapientRazorfish thought leadership and approach to digital transformation
Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
10+ years of deep qualitative or quantitative research expertise in business, public sector, or academia, with a particular focus on human experience
Education: Bachelor of Arts/Science (or higher) in Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Human Factors, Decision Sciences, Statistics, or Marketing Research
Proven experience crafting and leading research tracks for strategy and digital roadmap projects in a complex environment
Experience in building research plans, milestones, and budgets
Strong understanding of user research, user-centered design principles and online consumer behavior
Excellent communication and presentation skills; dynamic (persuasive) in presenting ideas to clients and prospective clients from VP to C-level; comfortable being able to quickly join the client leadership team and immediately add value
Must possess rigorous analytical disciplined approach as well as dynamic, abstract problem solving skills (get to the answer via both "inspiration" and "perspiration")
