Sales Manager, Higher Education - Greater Chicago Area

We have a ground-level opportunity for you to contribute to our growth as a Sales Manager. Be one of the first to join our Higher Education Sales team, working with colleges and universities to identify key content for their courses, both print and digital. As a thought leader, you will have a hand in creating our best practices, identifying opportunities for award-winning titles to be used in the classroom, and driving digital and print sales, all leading to improved student outcomes. The Manager will cover select colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and PA. Join our innovative team!
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Creating and executing Annual Account Plans with detailed strategy on expanding sales and raising company profile with all stakeholders.
2. Developing actionable daily and weekly plans utilizing standardized tools to ensure maximum territory and school coverage.
3. Securing relationships with decision makers and influencers, including bookstores, departmental assistants, instructors, professors, department chairs, committees, and institutional leadership.
4. Demonstrating strong subject-matter expertise to assist educators in identifying appropriate content options and solutions for program courses.
5. Developing a strong sales pipeline for PRH titles by understanding target markets, securing course material adoptions, and uncovering unique needs of the institution, program, or course.
6. Processing all sample requests for territory accounts and tracking opportunities in sales database systems.
7. Supporting accounts in all aspects related to customer service and troubleshooting to ensure a positive customer experience.
8. Implementing goals, directions, and requirements from sales leadership, giving feedback to key stakeholders on processes and best practices, and providing accurate sales forecasting.
9. Traveling to all accounts at least twice per selling season.

• 3 years of direct selling experience
• A passion for books and an understanding of their place in education
• Proven ability to cultivate and maintain business relationships
• Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple projects
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Highly motivated with the proven ability to work well independently
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel via plane, train, and car about 60% during the academic season with reduced travel in the summer.
• Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends
• Prior trade or textbook publishing sales experience including digital content is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Knowledge of SAP, Salesforce, and Concur a plus
