Capitol Music Group (CMG) is comprised of Capitol Records, Virgin Records, Motown, Blue Note Records, Astralwerks, Harvest Records, Capitol Christian Music Group, Priority Records and Deep Well Records, as well as Capitol Studios and CMG’s independent label services and distribution division, Caroline. Capitol Music Group is based in Hollywood, California in the iconic Capitol Records Tower.
This role sits within Capitol Music Group’s Global Marketing team, and will be responsible for executing the digital strategy for artists on the Capitol Music Group roster. The successful applicant will develop single and album release digital marketing plans including overseeing artist websites/apps, social networks & messaging, DSP profiles & playlisting and music video releases. As such, this role will require someone who not only understands all digital technologies and platforms, but who can also effectively communicate with artists, artist management teams, label executives and digital partners.
One of the most important functions of this role is to work with our artists on bespoke campaigns that will drive awareness and consumption of downloads, streams and music video content. The candidate will have an understanding of how to creatively communicate with fans in a way that drives increases across the board in a method that is authentic to that artist’s voice and in a way that resonates with their fanbase.
Job Functions:
This role will be assigned a roster of artists across the Capitol Music Group family of labels, namely Capitol, Virgin, Blue Note and Motown. A knowledge and passion for those brands, their artists, fan bases and the eclectic genres of pop, rock, indie, jazz, hip hop, rap, R&B and soul music will strongly benefit those applying for this position.
• Manage playlisting strategies and analysis of streaming data for our clients with third party partners
• Manage larger initiatives coming out of key marketing and distribution partners
• Secure features and develop relationship with online partners
• Assess new partners and develop new opportunities
• Brainstorm and manage contests, giveaways, and other digital projects
• Manage marketing communications for the team by creating a monthly newsletter and updating streaming playlists
• Report on analytics across online properties to label partners, management and internal team; ensure audience development and growth in online engagement
• Direct/manage relations with independent marketing companies
• Conceptualize and manage delivery of assets for all content-driven promotions
• Manage, analyse and report on performance of digital initiatives
• Develop and execute content calendars for artists.
• Build innovative campaigns to further our artists’ data capture, sales and advertising goals, and react to social analytics in order to improve the success of these campaigns.
• Manage artist web properties, reading and tweaking content strategy for those properties in reaction to analytics.
• Create tracking links for campaigns, and communicate learnings as appropriate.
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and spoken), creativity and adaptability. Ability to read an audience and develop communication strategy depending on that audience.
• Quick learner who is able and excited to jump into and master new platforms, apps and services.
• Able to read basic analytics and develop plans and content in reaction to what the data observed is telling them as well as for online use
• Basic HTML knowledge preferred
• Able to read and react to trends in the social and online space.
• Advanced level artist relations and/or third-party distribution experience in a consumer-focused environment
• Expert, native user of social media platforms. Ability to maintain and develop relationships with online partners, especially top tier partners such as Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, Shazam, Tumblr, etc.
• Candidates should be creative, innovative, organized, detail-oriented and resourceful. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task
Experience:
• 3+ years’ experience working in the music or entertainment fields. Established relationships with with labels and/or brands, digital and social partners.
• Effective collaboration with other members of the Digital Marketing team (as well as teams throughout the company)
• Intermediate user of image editing & design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, CSS).
• Experience writing copy and creation of photo/video content.
• Experience strategizing and executing digital marketing campaigns, as well as pitching proposals for prospective clients (please be prepared to provide examples of or discuss campaigns you've worked on)
• Must be tech savvy with understanding of current & forthcoming technologies
• Experience using a CMS, specifically Wordpress and digital platforms such as BandPage, Songkick, etc.
• Build and manage artist budgets to support online marketing
• Experience securing online coverage and features with various media partners
Education:
• Degree or equivalent experience preferred
