We are currently seeking an intern to support the Young Readers design department. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the process from first design through what you see on a bookshelf and all the behind-the-scenes work in between! This summer internship is a paid opportunity (28 hours per week), and it will run from June 4 through the week of August 20.
Responsibilities:
• Layout and design ARC covers
• Scan art or sketches
• Layout and prepare paperback conversion mechanicals
• Handle corrigenda, especially design-heavy corrigenda
• Create production memo templates
• Create YR Design calendar
• Distribute weekly “Approved Covers” email
• Help coordinate weekly jacket meeting
• Package files for production
• Input design corrections
• Ship original art
• Respond to image requests and delivery of requested materials
• Create book dummies for Sales department
• Circulate materials from production through design
• Assorted office tasks, as needed
Requirements:
Applicants must be at least entering their junior year of college. Applicants going into their senior year of college, grad students, or college graduates preferred.
Must have graphic design experience. Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Strong communication and organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects. Must be passionate about children's book design.
