The Head of Production oversees all projects within the New York office, working with the production teams to create project plans, production processes and an environment that allow the facility to produce high quality work efficiently on time and on budget. The role reports directly into the Managing Director of New York.
This role's focus is on mentoring the production team in best practice; project bidding, planning, execution, client handling and how projects can be run most efficiently. The HOP works closely with the US Head of Talent and Heads of Departments.
Vital to the success of this role is an in depth knowledge of the production, VFX, VR and emerging technology processes. They should be inspired by finding solutions to the seemingly impossible and pushing the boundary of technical and creative output, and possess a calm leadership style ideal for problem solving in pressurised situations.
The role is primarily an internally facing one, however as part of the senior management team, they will be involved in client interaction, expanding new business and representing the company externally.

Overall Focus:
• Head of Production for core VFX in the New York office
• Bidding new business, alongside producers
• Responsible for margins on projects, alongside producers
• Manage integration between core VFX and Framestore Pictures / VR Studio / Labs / Design
• Senior Management of Facility (with Managing Director & Head of Talent)
• Liaise with producers and supervise first pass project schedules before handing to head of talent for projects to be crewed
• Working closely with the Head of Talent, Systems and technology teams to resolve issues, remove roadblocks and increase project efficiencies and margins
• Maintain a close relationship between Framestore Pictures and the post teams
• Oversee the Design department.
• Maintain a solid awareness of revenue targets.
• A responsibility to participate in new business and sales
Staff Management Responsibilities:
• Responsibility for all production staff within the office, including performance reviews
• Mentoring producers and production assistants, providing advice and support
• Hiring the best production team possible that work well together as a cohesive whole
Project responsibilities:
• Act in an Executive Producer capacity across all projects going through the NY facility
• Pitching and bidding projects as required
• Shared responsibility for margins of all projects going through NY
• Oversee CETA and ensure it is used correctly and consistently to give the most accurate cost reports
• Preemptively resolve issues on projects before they become damaging to the margin
• Closely oversee all complex projects that are having issues
• Sit in reviews as much as possible to keep on top of potential issues and guide decisions
Facility Management:
• Generally act as the glue between all departments, ensuring superior communication processes throughout the facility about projects and how they may require support from all departments, thereby enabling every department to provide the best support possible.
• Maintain clear communication with both office manager and systems teams about project requirements
• Alerting the MD and Head of Talent of any longer term issues that need to be budgeted and planned for
• Problem solve any storage and render issues for projects working closely with the systems and technology teams
• Act as referee between projects if storage and render issues come up
• Help resolve technical issues on unusual render tests or cloud render tests, and foresee how projects may affect the technology team to give them adequate warning of potential areas of concern
• Oversee MCR, working with the MCR lead on all project needs and daily issues
• Work closely with VFX editorial, ensuring all projects are moving through editorial efficiently
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• 10+ years operations and/or project management experience in a large VFX/post production facility
• Multi-disciplinary experience, including animation, VFX, Color, VR, digital and emerging technologies
• Experience in managing multiple project life cycles from business development to final delivery
• Comfort working in fast-paced environment with diverse cross-functional team
• Experience and interest in increasing efficiencies
• Shotgun experience
• Strong desire and ability to be a change-agent, providing experience-driven recommendations with team-building diplomacy
• Roll-up your sleeves, can-do attitude
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to engender support and trust from all departments.
