Description
The Susan and John Hess Family Theater is a state-of-the-art, dedicated theater space for performance, film/video screenings, education programming and special events within the museum. The Theater Manager will oversee all programming in the theater and other spaces, as required.
Key Responsibilities
-Serve as supervisor and liaison for the Hess Theater, overseeing day to day functions of the venue
-Advance, consult and execute a wide range of exhibitions, performance, corporate events, educational happenings, member evenings and rentals
-Supervise the Assistant Theater Manager and with him/her run 300+ events per year
-Work closely with curatorial team and artists to deliver performances; coordinating with key staff to oversee all requirements and serve as technical liaison
-Collaborate with Education, Special Events and Membership to advise on and realize the delivery of any theater-based activity
-Coordinate and liaise with all other museum departments to ensure delivery of each program (Security, Facilities, Visitor Services, Marketing and Communications, Exhibitions and Collection Management)
-Schedule all production staff (IATSE LOCAL 306) in conjunction with the WMAA AV Manager, and non-union labor as needed
-Serve as lighting designer to the space as needed
-Connect with external vendors to review schedules, costs, and venue specifications
Review and negotiate artist riders
-Ensure safety requirements are met
-Advise on and obtain any necessary permits and certificates
-Create, track and reconcile annual theater maintenance budget
-Coordinate museum-wide scheduling of the theater space to meet the needs of the museum
Requirements
-A minimum of 5 years of experience in live event management in a theater event production
-Supervisory experience
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Ability to multi-task, and work positively in a fast paced environment
-Ability to work with discretion, diplomacy, and in high pressure settings
-Ability to demonstrate a sense of urgency and act responsively
-Experience working with and directing union and non-union personnel
-Computer skills: Macintosh OS and Windows platform using Microsoft Office
-Flexibility in working hours as needed (nights and weekends)
