Director of Financial Planning and Analysis - USA TODAY

We are hiring a highly motivated, analytical leader who has a natural bias toward empowering the business with data to support decision-making and achieve company-wide financial goals. A senior member of the finance team, the Director of Finance for USA TODAY provides leadership and direction for Gannett’s flagship property. Develops and leads the FP&A function to produce the company's financial forecasts, based on customer segments, manages the annual budgeting process, conduct financial performance management and variance analysis, support customer pricing and margin analysis adding financial insight into special initiatives and delivering financial presentations and other projects. The right candidate will be a successful business partner, communicate clearly, and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role supports and provides critical analyses and insights to help drive business decisions in a dynamic and fluid organization.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create reports and other analytical tools that aid Management decision making, track key KPIs, provide compelling insight to the business and result in operational improvements.
• Develop annual budgets and short and long-range planning models and work with department heads on operational implantation.
• Ensure alignment amongst other strategic and financial processes, assumptions and models, and any active business development transactions.
• Understand the financial drivers for the organization’s revenue streams and the implications of changes, additions, and trends.
• Create management presentations for leadership, Executive Team and Board of Directors.
• Development of complex financial models. Provide guidance and recommendations to management on the financial aspects of USA TODAY and its variety of platforms.
• Analyze and review weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance. Highlight trends and track potential risks and opportunities for the year.
• Partner with operations in periodic review of financial performance and develop reports that help them meet their financial goals.
• Lead the annual budget process and annual long-range planning process. Provides ongoing reporting and analysis on metrics used to measure performance. Prepares monthly results package for leadership.
• Prepare ad-hoc models and analysis to support operational and strategic business decisions (e.g. promotion/discount strategy, menu mix optimization, marketing ROI, pricing, etc.) Analysis of revenue and expense forecasting and actual results.
Requirements:
• Education and Expertise:
◦ Bachelors’ degree in Business, Finance,Accounting, Economics or other quantitative discipline; Master’s Degree or CPA preferred. Experience in media and digital industries a plus.
◦ 7 years of experience in finance, accounting or similar roles. Experience building out strong modeling, elaborate spreadsheets, strategic, statistical analysis with the ability to analyze, draw and view trends. Ideal background and expertise, in digital advertising, understand the terminology, impressions, page views. Advertising Agency, large B2B or B2C experience.
◦ Solid understanding of the overall planning function and extensive knowledge of financial statements.
• Financial Systems expertise and elaborate computer skills:
◦ Experience using financial systems and business reporting tools with knowledge or expertise in Tableau (or similar data extraction tools).
◦ Advanced Excel expertise and comfort with complex spreadsheets and large data sets, building financial and forecast models, pivot tables and macros. Experience in creating and automating dashboards, standard reports, scorecards, ad-hoc reports, and data visualizations that provide key business insights.
◦ Proficiency in PowerPoint to include experience presenting complex analysis to senior leaders (need to be able to “tell the story” and provide recommendations.)
