The Product Director for Content Intelligence will guide the strategic vision and oversight of USA TODAY NETWORK’s search and content data portfolio. This interdisciplinary product portfolio is critical to deepening our understanding of content and customer engagement through the evolving application of search and content data. These elements will serve as foundation to build contextual experiences to drive audience, engagement and revenue.
You will serve as the owner of data quality and evolving our search application USA TODAY NETWORK’s assets and products. Your success will measured by product-specific KPIs that you will develop and optimize over time (e.g. search precision rates around programmatic-appended geolocation & increase in search engagement).
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable of, and has an informed perspective on, an evolved user experience, best practices, emerging technologies -- particularly in open source search applications and NLP approaches -- and business needs that will manifest the product strategy. Exposure to Machine Learning principles and business application a huge plus.
You will be responsible for overseeing the portfolio roadmap, refinement and evolution of Search and Data product lines. You will be tasked with the evolving and programmatic application of structured content data of the Network’s content and our Search application. You will work with leadership and internal stakeholders to improve workflow efficiency, help devise elegant technical approaches and position the Search and Data product experiences for measurable growth.
You will take end-to-end ownership, collaborating with various teams, including product development, project management, design, operations, editorial, business development and customer service.
Responsibilities
• The implementation of a supercharged Search for the USA TODAY NETWORK. This includes improving our Search solution and discovery across our product line.
• The holistic ownership of the Taxonomy/Evolved Content data and programmatic application for the Network’s content, including our NLP approach.
• Oversight and coordination of the strategic vision for the Content Intelligence portfolio, including conceptualization, ideation, opportunity assessment and prioritization. Provide higher-level perspective on product lifecycle, informed by continuing knowledge of evolving industry trends and innovation, and understanding of business goals.
• Direct product process, including maintaining a living roadmap, implementing tests, developing iterative product requirements and KPIs, defining needed resources and fully deploying the products across the USA TODAY NETWORK and other distribution channels.
• Evolve our relationship with third party vendors, especially in the Search, NLP and ML, pushing for efficiency and cost reduction.
• Working closely with our Data Science team to deeply understand our content qualities and predictive signals.
• Analyze product performance metrics in partnership with internal stakeholders and use these data to improve existing products and identify new product opportunities.
• Partner with our CMS product group to define a powerful efficient workflow for data stewardship.
• Proven ability to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable about the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in content and data.

Qualifications
• 7+ years experience developing and managing consumer products
• 4+ years experience in managing teams
• Productivity software and analytics tools
• Knowledge of open source search technologies (SOLR, Elasticsearch)
• Practical knowledge of Natural Language Processing and projects employing Machine Learning, Deep Learning and/or Neural Networks
