Description
Pace Gallery is looking for a creative and versatile Staff Writer to join our Communications & PR team. In this role you will support the efforts of the Editorial Manager and the Communications Department in accordance with the overall vision and objectives of the gallery.
You will write clear and engaging content as well as be responsible for assisting with the development of new materials for a variety of gallery initiatives, including exhibitions, proposals, and inventory texts with a focus on post-war and contemporary art.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Write and develop original content for the gallery, including but not limited to exhibition-related texts, sales packets, website content, art fair proposals, public art proposals, and correspondence.
• Conduct research utilizing in-house materials as well as local libraries and archives, when necessary.
• Work closely with the Research & Archives Staff Writer and members of the Communications Department to write versatile texts that can be utilized across multiple platforms.
• Liaise with Dealer Offices and colleagues at global Pace locations to complete writing projects in support of relevant artists or exhibitions.
• Collaborate with artists on necessary projects to successfully present an artwork or vision.
• Work with the Graphics Department on exhibition catalogues, including copyediting catalogue essays and in accordance with Pace style guides.
• Edit content written by fellow Pace writers and members of the gallery to ensure accuracy with some materials requiring comprehensive editing and others light proofreading.
• Flexibility to change course on projects as they evolve and present innovative options.
QUALIFICATIONS
• B.A. Degree, or higher, in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or Journalism.
• A minimum of 2 years copywriting for a museum, auction house, gallery, or a similar role.
• In-depth and wide-ranging knowledge of art history, contemporary art, as well as standard art history research methods and writing.
• Excellent writing and editing abilities, along with exceptional communication skills.
• Ability to move fluidly between projects and adjust writing to distinctive styles based on voice and audience.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Confidence when working under pressure, multi-tasking, and managing a workload with tight deadlines.
• Capability to interact effectively with, and gain the confidence of, senior management.
• Possess a positive and solution-oriented attitude and be a proven team player.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Outlook.
• A working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style.
