Description
Chelsea gallery seeks a full-time gallery assistant. Individual would act as a receptionist/office administrator, greeting visitors, addressing and directing inquiries, and act as Assistant to one of the Gallery Directors. Strong communication skills and outgoing personality required. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
Key areas of responsibility:
-Serve as the “face of the gallery” when greeting visitors and clients at the front desk.
-Answer questions about the gallery, its artists, and exhibitions
-Answer and direct phone calls and take messages
-Input and update contact information and address preferences in our database
-Assist directors with outgoing/incoming communication with Artists/Clients/Institutions
-Assist directors with filing, indexing, and scheduling
-Perform diverse administrative and clerical functions, including but not limited to: maintaining appointment calendar, creating and prioritizing schedules, and handling travel logistics.
-Assist in the coordination of on and off-site events, including cultivation events, dinners, and opening receptions. Maintain front desk during gallery openings.
-Help with Art Fair preparations
-Update artist CVs and media kits
-Process daily incoming and outgoing mail and packages-all other duties as assigned
Skills:
-Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to represent an organization, both internally and externally, with the highest level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy is also required.
-Skilled multi-tasker with a record of completing projects in a timely manner with judgment and discretion.
-Strong problem solving, time management and writing skills, including accurate proofreading.
-Ability to interact and communicate effectively and build strong relationships with all staff.
-High degree of computer proficiency. Artbase experience preferred.
-Familiarity with art history and standard gallery procedures, policies and practices is desired.
Qualifications:
-BA (preferably in Art History or related field) is required
-Internships or other work experience within the arts preferred
-Language skills a plus
Position:
-The gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
-Hours for the position are approximately 9:30am to 6:30pm Tuesday through Saturday, plus extended hours for special events.
