Description
Purpose of the Role:
We are looking for a design director to lead our Learning Tools UX team. This team focuses on creating impactful learning experiences and actionable insights for instructors and students in higher education. You will be based in the Austin office and will manage a team that is distributed across Austin, New York, and remote.
We’re looking for someone who wants to use their design and leadership skills to manage and develop a world-class design team building meaningful and impactful learning tools. Good candidates are naturally curious, empathetic, and collaborative, and they approach their work and ideas with confidence and humility. They are inspiring and influential, and believe in a design-led culture. They love understanding the people they’re designing for: talking to them, hearing their stories, and learning the nuances of their behaviors and motivations. They not only have solid gut instinct around what makes a good product and good product design but they consistently lead their teams to deliver awesome work. They have a strong curiosity about students on their higher education journey and are excited about the opportunity to define the future of educational technology.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a distributed team of UX designers, both on staff and contract
• Work with product leaders to drive design strategy and ensure that our designs are solving problems and providing value to our users that aligns with business goals
• Collaborate with other design leads to understand the holistic experiences needed for different higher ed disciplines that we serve
• Collaborate with your team & UX Research in synthesizing research to frame problems, uncover insights, and tell stories that build alignment and buy-in with stakeholders
• Facilitate design sprints and workshops to build institutional knowledge, excitement, and actionable plans for product groups
• Communicate your work to stakeholders; from fellow designers to executives
• Lead efforts to build and foster a design culture that impacts the organization as a whole
• Coach and mentor designers on your team; identify and support areas for growth of the team and individuals
• Contribute to efficient design planning that informs product roadmaps and makes room for good design to happen
Requirements:
• Demonstrated experience as a design manager or creative director across the entire product lifecycle, from research and discovery, to design, to delivery
• Experience as an inspiring and influential design leader with a strong ability to empathize and collaborate with peers and stakeholders
• Experience facilitating cross-functional working sessions and/or workshops with peers and stakeholders
• Strong point of view that shapes your leadership style
• Experience working closely with Product and Engineering teams to deliver products; experience working with Content teams a plus
